Has anyone been following the US Open? It has been so interesting to have it in Pinehurst again this year. We are just a little village but everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and the reviews have been very good.

It would be almost impossible to live in Pinehurst and not be cognizant of the presence of media and the air of excitement. I live less than 5 minutes from the clubhouse at Pinehurst#2 and sometimes have lunch there when we have out of town guests. I am so fortunate to live in a place that is so charming. There isn't a lot to do in this area except golf but that that doesn't bother me a bit.

Hopefully I can get my shoulder healed up so I can get back on the courses!

Betty,
Our newspaper publisher somehow got a guided tour last week while the course was apparently closed right before the Open. I believe one of his sons is married to a gal from there that has connections. Anyway, the publisher wrote a long piece about it one day this week.

Aren't you close to Fort Bragg? Or am I wrong in that supposition?
Mary

Hi Betty,

You are very fortunate. Our envy :) With the hubby being an avid golfer......Pinehurst is heaven on earth!

Enjoy.

I have a friend whose son'in'law goes to them all here and in Europe. He has a business involving golf. It's like small rooms where you go to hit the ball - the room can be set to put you on any course in the world, set it to look like you are there at whatever angle/degree/hole you want to be. He sets up and the golfers (on/off the participation course) go to practice and enjoy.

Yes, Lucky YOU!!

Yes, Lucky YOU!!

Betty. You are a lucky one. Pinehurst looks just gorgeous. We are close to Peter Jacobson's Portland Golf Club, here in Oregon and there have been several large scale events there in the past -- we did notice all the hoopla here, but nothing like what you're having!!

How far are you from Raleigh/Durham? Just curious.

:) Marguerite

My husband and son went to the Open yesterday! My son flew down to our home in Wilmington, NC from Ohio to take his dad. They had a great time!

Watched on the TV this year. Go Michael Campbell! I think the Open evens the playing field because not only are amateurs in, but the course(s) each year are made to do just that.

With Mike being a PGA pro, we've been to and played some beautiful courses - Pinehurst is gorgeous! My favorite so far was Pebble Beach and Spyglass.

Pam, if you are ever over this way again we have to get together, OK? Years ago I had to decline a wonderful trip that included a round of Golf at the Pebble Beach course in favor of back surgery! I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to play there again. I sure hope so though!

I'm so glad they enjoyed it. We rented a beach house several weeks ago not far from you up in North Topsail. The kids and grandkids all joined us and we had a great time. We drove down to Wilmington one night for dinner to an old seafood restaurant on the water. You live in a pretty area of North Carolina.
