Peter (husband) goes into hospital tomorrow night, for surgery first thing Wednesday. Just feeling very nervous even though I know the odds are extremely high and he's actually otherwise in very good health. It is reassuring to read so many "success" stories and to know what to expect. Thanks - I will post to let everyone know how it turns out.

Best wishes and thoughts go with you and your husband....

wishing you and yours well on this journey. I am 2 weeks away and got butterflys when I saw and thought of the 2 DAYS,YIKES!
Well we do what we can and what we must and trust in the powers that be.:)

Take care and hang in there.

Lynne,

My thoughts and prayers will be with Peter. He will be fine - you'll see. :)

Just both of you put one foot in front of the other and before you know it, Peter will be recovering beautifully.

I, myself, will have surgery on my mitral valve in three weeks, so I know from whence I speak regarding pre-surgery jitters. I am starting, as Ram, to get into the "scared silly and ready to flee" stage, as the date is moving closer.

God be with you -
Chris

Prayers for a successful outcome for your husband. We will be thinking of you.

Everything will go well and you'll soon be over the intense stress. Please keep us updated when possible.

Hi Lynne-

I know how nervous you must be feeling. Waiting to hear the results of your husband's surgery is very stressful.

Let me make some recommendations. Bring along some headache medication, a small pillow so you can rest your head, some mints or a small bottle of mouthwash, your mouth might be dry, some Immodium for possible nervous reactions in your digestive tract, some change for vending machines and something that can occupy your mind.

I'm sure your husband will do very well. It will be so nice to have him in healing mode and with a hopeful future.

So smooth sailing for you both, and we'll talk to you later.

Dear Lynne - you are a patient, too. All of us know that our loved ones who stand by are suffering as much as we did. My prayers are with you and Peter for a successful and swift surgery tomorrow/Wednesday. God bless

Nancy, good ideas

Nancy, good ideas

Lynne, I hope your hospital is as supportive of waiting relatives as my was. There are a couple of nuns whose sole purpose is to answer questions and run errands and make change and if wished, pray with those waiting. It was all done in a second for me; my husband and daughters had many hours to cool their heels. My very best wishes for your husband - may the mountain be a molehill and the truck miss him entirely. And you take good care of yourself and let others do their jobs while he's in the hospital. He'll need you to be healthy and rested when he gets home.

Nancy - your ideas are great. Has there been discussion addressing this previously? If not, there should be.

My prayers are with you and your husband, Lynne.

Hi Lynne,

Family members are just as important around here as the patients because we would be so lost without them. I had surgery 6 weeks ago and these weeks are so much better for me than the 6 weeks before the surgery. By the time surgery arrived I was waited out. Quite a few of the members here had their surgeries post-poned at the last minute for various reasons and I would not have done well with that.

Please know that many prayers will be going up for not only your husband but your whole family and the healthcare team taking care of him.

Mamsram and Chris,

Time marches on and this will soon be part of your personal history too. My heart really goes out to everyone in the waiting room....I love being on this side of the mountain and soon you will be here too!

Lynne,

My best to you. I know that the stress of surgery really has an effect on the whole family.

It helped my husband to talk to my step-daughter who send e-mail reports to friends and extended family. My daughter also fielded calls to our house. He was able to choose whom he wished to speak with each night and didn't have to repeat himself.

You'll probably be sitting a lot. I would find it difficult to read, but headphones and an MP3 or CD player might be helpful. You can block out some of the noise around you.

Best of luck for your husband's surgery. Someties I think it is much easier for us as the patients to deal, after all we get to sleep through it all and then be coddled afterwards. Be sure you as the caregiver get lots of rest too! You will be in my prayers and I'm sure all will go well!

Heather

Thanks everyone for all your encouragement, good advice, thoughts and prayers.

Lynne,

Best wishes for your husband's upcoming surgery.

What part of the British Empire are you from?

How does that expression go? The one about
Americans and the English being separated by
a common language? :)

'AL'

(My guess is that you are from England)
