Hey everyone! I got back home from Strong Memorial Hospital yesterday after an 8 hour surgery for the thoracic aortic root and new St. Jude Valve. I have been feeling great, but I did struggle with a rough patch of neurological migraines each night as I recovered, but I think they are over (fingers crossed.)

Last night was the first night I slept for more than 3-4 hours in a sitting. My ability to walk and breathe is good, but I do notice I am struggling tying and reading on the computer more than normal. Hopefully, it will be short and boring recovery, and I will be up and feeling good soon! Thanks for keeping my spot in the waiting room!

Sounds like you are moving in the right. Great to hear your surgery went well. After all, it is normal to feel tired, run-down and lacking in energy after surgery. Get some rest. Thanks for the update.

Your done in the waiting room Jimmy:thumbup:
You have now earned a spot on top of the "Been There Done That!" club.:biggrin2:
Steve, myself and several others could not type correctly, even with spell check the first week after surgery even though we thought we were feeling 100%.
Thanks for the update!

Welcome back! Get some rest first, then fill us in on the details in a few days. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Jimmy,
I am glad to hear your surgery went well and I wish you the best on your recovery. I am 3 weeks post op and I just like most others on this site can relate to what you are going through. I wish I could offer you some good news regarding sleeping in an upright position but I still have to sleep in my recliner. I am getting closer to that goal of sleeping in my bed. Do some walking every day and perform the breathing exercises to expand the lungs. Don't feel too bad about the computer and the typing. My first week I couldn't really think or concentrate on anything. Oh and don't do what I am doing now, staying up late typing on the computer! Best Wishes!

Jimmy, last week you body got pumped full of drugs; it takes awhile to get them out of your system. All of my life I have been what the Chinese call a "book eater". For about a week and a half after surgery, I just couldn't concentrate on reading or writing more than a few lines but that will pass soon. Concentrate now on your breathing exercise with the spirometer and walking. The more you can walk, the better your body can expel the last of the drugs and walking is of course the best exercise now for getting your lung reinflated. No need to struggle, Jimmy, perhaps you might listen to music instead.
