I had my 1 month check up for the VR today. The cardio said everything sounded good. He did add an addition diuretic to get rid of the fluid retention. Yeah!!!!

Now I just have to wait for the follow up with the Surgeon on the lastest surgery, the drain tube. It has started draining again but not anything like the 1st time. Cardio gave me antibiotics and told me not to worry that some drainage is okay and what happened last week won't repeat itself(my luck it will:D :D )

Now if all the bruises would heal I would feel like a new person!

Thanks all for being here!!!

Well well well, sounds like you might actually be on the path to recovery now. Keep on doing and getting better. Drainage-Seems like it never ends, but it will. :)

So glad your 1 month checkup went well. How was your INR?..Antibotics may throw it off:eek:  I'm sure your clinical nurse will adjust it.:) :) Bet you don't go too far from bathroom?:p :p Keep taking those pain meds and walking. Just don't overdo the walking at first...Bonnie

Congrats, Nadi

Congrats, Nadi

I hope the next month is better than last. I'm glad you're doing better now. Breathe Breathe Breathe. When do you see your surgeon? Bruising goes away VERY slowly on warfarin. And the extent of the bruising is quite amazing, isn't it?

Diuretics

Diuretics

This new diuretic sure worked!!!!!!
I lost 13.5 lbs since yesterday afternoon. My legs almost look human again( I had flintstone feet:D :D )

The called with my inr results last night 1.72 and 17.9 so they ups the warfarin, retesting this AM. Yeah another needle stick:D :D :D :D :D :D

Also I found out another "tip" to post op'ers. Don't curl up on the couch leaning over the arm!! It may feel good to begin with but it sure taxes the muscles later! Ouch!

11 days til I see the surgeon(and counting)

Well I am off to see the vampires!:D

Nadine refresh my memory, how are you taking your warfarin and are you self testing? If they're sticking you everyday, they're never going to get your dosing right. It takes about 3 full days for a dosage change to show. I'm concerned they're sticking you way too much.

testing

testing

They tested in the hospital Monday Am then yesterday. I "think" they wanted to go ahead and test again today since I was already getting a blood test for mag. and electrolytes amd see if maybe yesterday was a fluke or something. I won't test again until next week.

No, I'm not self testing yet:D :D I figured i would give them a couple of months to get my levels right then hit the Dr's up for self testing.

O.K. then, just making sure. I've heard of people being stuck every other day and dosage adjustments with each stick, then they can't figure out why they can't get regulated. I was afraid they were doing that to you too.

Please tell me that 17.9 is a mistake. :D

17.9 is right

17.9 is right

Yes, the 17.9 is what they told me. I sure hope my numbers are better today.

The name of the water pill is "Zaroxolyn" and the best part is no cramping like you would expect taking off that much fluid. I really hope Monday's dose takes the rest of this water off.:D

I sure wish the dr's nurse would call. The sun is coming out and I want to get out in it and walk.

17.9 can't be the INR converted number or you should be bleeding like a mad person. Anybody got a conversion chart?

Dr's ofc just called

Dr's ofc just called

The nurse just called and said to stay on 7.5
INR 1.89 and PT was 19.6.

I dont understand why this is happening!! I have only had a little spinach once this week(tues) and a little lettuce on a taco Wed. No deep fried foods, no soy, very lacking in green veggies.

Any suggestions welcomed. I am really concerned.

Don't be too worried but stay off all greens until you test again. Will probably be up there next week.:) :) Bonnie

Hi Nadi-

Your numbers MUST mean INR (first number) and prothrombin time (second number), which is why you have two numbers.

"ProTime will enable you to do prothrombin time (PT) testing at home. This test is done to check the status of your oral anticoagulation therapy. Results are reported in both INR and PT seconds. "

**** This quote is from some literature about the ProTime Unit.

Anticoagulation blood results used to be shown in prothrombin numbers before INR started to be used. They are a different calculation.

Zaroxolyn is amazing, isn't it. Sort of like being connected to a fire hose, LOL.

If Joe has trouble with fluid over the weekend, he may be looking at that as well, on Monday. It's going to be a TOTALLY salt free weekend for him, much to his delight. So we'll try to do it naturally to save his kidneys. He's also on Lasix.

I'm So happy

I'm So happy

I saw my Dr's PA today for edema check and did labs. She said I could stop the Zaroxolyn since I lost a total of 27 lbs since this past Thur. Yeah!!! I feel a whole lot better with all that water off!.

They just called with lab results INR 2.65 and PT 27.3
and to stay on same dose. Wants to retest Thur. I will be sooooo glad to get leveled out so I can go even just once a week. Would rather go once a month :D :D

What I really wish is that it would get a little higher so I can eat some green veggies. A salad with out lettuce is getting boring.

Slosh slosh

Slosh slosh

Nadine, WHERE did you put it???? Did they leave you on lasix? You must be feeling a whole lot better. And I do hope you have a good inr on Thursday. I'll bet if you do they'll leave you alone for a couple of weeks.

I hope this means you've really turned the corner and can begin to concentrate on important things - like old "Perry Masons" and "Murder She Wrote" and "Dr. Phil" (THAT really made me feel superior - dumb people and their angst over stupid stuff and me with my chest cut open!).
