For those that don't remember Tom Price came up with the term POPR (popper I believe is the correct pronunciation ) and it stands for Post Operations Personal Record.
I ran a 1/2 marathon yesterday. June 5 (two days from now) I'll be eight months post-surgery.
When I run a race I usually set time goals based on training, conditioning and if possible the course. For this particular race here were my predictions:
Estatic 2:10 (ran 2:02 last year)
Thrilled 2:15-2:17
Happy 2:20
My official run time was 2:11:02, my garmin time was 2:10:46...so I'm estatic.
I started out trying hard to hold back the first 2 or 3 miles, knowing the steepness of the start, thinking somewhere around 10:15. Well that didn't happen. I was running very comfortably and felt like I was really going slow. Right ! Mile 1--9:41, mile 2--9:35, mile 3--9:51. Oh well hang on and hope for the best.
For the next for miles.. still feeling comfortable 10:02, 10:01, 10:00, 9:55.
I'm thinking I'm right under a 10 minute pace...can I still hang on.
Mile 8--9:40, 9--9:47, 10--10:00..Oh no, starting to slow down and hoping I can maintain.
Mile 11--10:02, 12--10:15, 13--10:16. Those last took took everything I had to keep the pace where it was. HR hit 90% max a few times.
I did manage to get 8:51 pace for the last .18 miles...
This course is billed as the world's fastest 1/2 marathon. It is in Fontana, CA. It starts in the hills at 3250 feet and ends at the city hall at 1260 feet. There no uphills at all on this course, just a couple bumps in the road.
