My INR reading today came back 1.2.I'm supposed to be between 2.5 and 3.0.Anyone have any idea what I should do.I normally take 5 mg every day except Sunday.On Sunday I take 7.5mg.They told me to take 10mg tonight and saturday night and back to 7.5mg on Sunday.Back to 5mg on Monday and retest on Tuesday.Any ideas!!!!!

I had ran into the same problem back when I started taking anti-coagulation medication. Not sure exactly what happened. Maybe something with my diet. But my INR went down to 1.4. (It should be between 2.5 and 3.5). They ended up putting my on 10mg, 7.5mg and 7.5mg for the next 3 days. It put me back in the normal range. May have even been right at the edge of the 2.5 or 3.5. I can't remember. But it did the job.

I would do what they say. I would think you would want to be a little on the high side then the low side. I just ran into an INR of 7.3. They ended up taking me off my warfarin for one day. Then I got rechecked and my level had gone down to 4.6. Now I'm on 2.5, 2.5 and 5 for the next 3 days before I get checked again on Monday.

Did you have a repair or a replacement?

I would think that the retest on Tuesday will only show the effects of the 2 10mg doses...remembering it takes 3 days for the warfarin to reach its proper & full therapeutic effect...it will probably show that you have increased your INR temporarily.
Ross will have a much better idea than me on what dose will help get you back in-range...it seems to me that they have asked you to take about a 70% increase in your usual weekly dose.
I agree that a loading dose is probably going to help and then I would want to get back on my regular dose soon if I had been pretty stable before this latest OOPS...I dont know how big a change taking 2 doses @ 10mg would have on your INR.

I'm a little surprised (and / or disappointed) that they didn't recommend taking LOVENOX Injections for a few days until your INR is back in range.

If you are concerned about Risk of Stroke, you may want to call the On-Call Doctor for your Primary Care Physician (or Cardiologist) and ask about getting an Rx for Lovenox Injections. (Have you ever used Lovenox before? If not, you would probably need instruction on how to go about administering the injections. Perhaps a Pharmacist could cover that training if need be).

If I was reading an INR of 1.2 that would send me to the ER for a heparin IV or Lovenox injections.

When was your last INR test? If it's been more than a week ago, I'd call and ask for Lovenox until you're in range again.

Yes, at 8 1/2 months post op the INR is usually very stable.
