    How is your memory?

14 months postop. My memory took a hit early on. Couldn't remember names, things I was told, my wife would repeat the same thing several times. It has improved since but not yet 100%. I always relied on my memory to remember things but now am learning to take notes and keep reminders.

    One year later

It's been a little over a year since my aortic valve replacement surgery. In the weeks leading to the surgery, I would be out of breath going up two flight of stairs. This hasn't really improved much. Does it take longer ? I have been going to the gym to get back in shape and I can walk for...

    Dental Implant

Before my AVR (mechanical), I extracted a tooth in preparation for an implant. I did not predict the AVR before the implant. I just called my dentist to book the implant procedure. I informed the assistant that I was on warfarin. She simply told me to stop taking it 5 to days before the...

    Frustrated and angry

I had a different experience. I had about 2 weeks from the realization that I needed a replacement to surgery. First time (and only) time I met the surgeon, he simply said to me, at your age (49), I would not recommend tissue, mechanical is the way to go. Good luck

Has tissue valve replacement become the new "preferred" for 40-50-60year olds?

My surgeon said to me: "You're 49, mechanical is the way to go, no question". That's what I chose. Then ,the night before the surgery, the chief of surgery came to my room to talk to me. He told me that within 5 to 10 years, valve replacements will be done via a catheter procedure. The...

    INR like a yoyo

Looking at it from a weekly doses perspective makes a lot of sense and simplifies the whole concept. Thank you !! I'm trying to be in the 2.5 to 3.5 range, so 55 mg probably looks good.

    INR like a yoyo

Hi everybody, Surgery was 6 weeks ago. Aortic valve. 49 years old. Have had complications. The docs haven't been able to stabilize my INR. 10 days after coming home from surgery, my INR tested at 1.4 and that same day, I had a mild heart attack (due to a clot) which bought me an additional...

Good Surgery / Not so good INR

It's been just over 4 weeks since my AVR surgery. From what I read here, typical post-op pains and other issues. 5 days in hospital. 10 days after surgery, I was at the hospital (Montreal Heart Institute) doing the weekly blood test and my INR had gone down to 1.4. Took a Fragmin shot in the...
