    For those needing to know.......

Yes. Originally QAS changed to Tapestry to get a better hold of customer service and keeping customers happy. Then there was a name change for Inverness to Alere. Because QAS and Tapestry were both owned by Inverness they've now been combined and changed to Alere home monitoring. I hope this...

    INR Discrepancy

The toughest thing for me to explain to patients or nurses or even doctors is that there is no gold standard for INR testing. This is a case where so many factors play a part in determination of INR that it would be almost as amazing if you got perfect correlation, rather than the expectation...

    INR Discrepancy

So I thought I'd dabble into this a bit since I deal with this on a daily basis. There are 3 ranges allowed by The World Health Organization (WHO) and International Organization of Standards (ISO) when comparing a Point-of-Care (POC) meter and a lab: Lab INR: 0.0 - 2.0: POC meter shall be...

What time of day to test? Does it matter?

Coming from what I understand about coumadin (I'm not an actual patient) the best time to test is the morning after taking pills. Most people dose nightly but because coumadin's effects take awhile to be absorbed in the small intestine and actually start to "work."

    Interesting Letter from QAS

I just want to let everyone know I'm looking into this from my side to see what "truth" there is behind this regarding returns and the exact stipulations. As soon as I get an answer I will try to forward it on, this is complete news to me and I know if this letter is going out to everyone we...

Can Anyone Recommend an At-Home INR Testing Kit?

Europeans have a lot more liberal healthcare as well. Germany allows for self dosing of coumadin as well! Restrictions in insurance coverage will always cause doctors to become hesitant because they may not get paid. The insurance companies often dictate the quality of healthcare strictly...

Can Anyone Recommend an At-Home INR Testing Kit?

Sad to say this but I really think there is a generation of docs that will need to retire before our next big jump in medical breakthrough technology.

Can Anyone Recommend an At-Home INR Testing Kit?

Won't get the Distributor's to do it. Distributors are usually not the doctor's best friend from the doctor's eyes. You would need to get a big name doctor or group of doctor's to condone the meters at a seminar for their truly to become a big trust factor. Every study out there suggests that...

Can Anyone Recommend an At-Home INR Testing Kit?

I'm not sure the international market share on if the CoaguChek is wider spread. But I do know the INRatio meter's are distributed in mass numbers world wide. We even have a whole new Technical Service department in Australia for the INRatio product line. The most important factor is that...

Can Anyone Recommend an At-Home INR Testing Kit?

Agree, lance. They both have their own benefits and both are really just as accurate as the other. I did not know that about the CoaguChek XS and that they switched to on-board controls. I apologize. In the industry the Hemosense meters are generally known as the patient oriented meter and the...

Can Anyone Recommend an At-Home INR Testing Kit?

There are three main meters on the market: Hemosense INRatio2, ITC Protime. CoaguChek meter by Roche. All 3 will do what you want. Each manufacturer website has a comparison between the 3. It would be best to choose from them: 1...

Can Anyone Recommend an At-Home INR Testing Kit?

You should really think about having Medicare cover it. You would get reimbursed as far as I could see: http://www.hemosense.com/patient/reimburse.shtml http://www.hemosense.com/docs/5500207_ReimbGuide_RevF_web.pdf There are certain if ands or buts about what provider you are going through but...

    Lancets/Blood samples

If this was a Hemosense meter there is no programmed Error 118. Ross, you are correct, there is a Error 114 and an Error 124. There are actually a handful of 3 digit errors possible on the meter, majority of them are test specific. You could have these possibilities on the meter, notice all of...

Can Anyone Recommend an At-Home INR Testing Kit?

The question would come up, do you get reimbursed from your insurance for the strips? If not, then the distributor just doesn't the get same sort of reimbursement with you as a customer. This is what I understand. Another reason that there are two different packagings for the strips is the...

    INR +0.2 in 6 hours ...

The way to think of this is like this: Hypothetically speaking you go to a lab and get a 3.0. When you test on any meter right away it needs to fall within 30% of that value. So 30% of 3.0 would be 0.9. So if you take the 3.0 you can go up or down by 0.9. So hypothetically speaking a meter could...

    INR +0.2 in 6 hours ...

If you all would like complete clarification on allowable variance I can list it for you. W.H.O (World Health Organization) has standards for INR comparisons when testing two different methods, primarily a POC (Point-of-Care) device compared to a reference method (lab). W.H.O is who tells the...

Can Anyone Recommend an At-Home INR Testing Kit?

The 12 packs and 10 packs actually have to do with reimbursement. When the distributor gets reimbursed for results they have to include the past XX results. Many of the times it's 8-9 results. Once they get reimbursed they essentially get their profit. Until then every box of 12 strips sold is...

The strangest warranty replacement (so far)

Understand completely Ross. The best thing for you guys to know is that in Technical Services we have no way of actually charging you without your consent in an order form. What we are allowed to send out is product for troubleshooting, not product for orders. There is actually no way for us to...
