Amoxicillin before a dental cleaning: tooth or consequences...

Lisa, Your reference to the AHA guidelines piqued my interest. After my surgery, all four cardiologists and my primary care physicians advised me to take Amoxicillin one hour before any dental procedure. When I inquired about the necessity of a second dose due to my condition and a desire for...

Amoxicillin before a dental cleaning: tooth or consequences...

Exactly! It’s much safer to take antibiotics one hour before treatment! Knowledgable/caring dentists won’t accept to clean one’s teeth if not pre-medicated!

Invasive procedure perioperative management of INR (extended)

Sorry for what you went through, but glad you’re okay. Do you self-test at home? If so, what was your INR Thursday night? You may have needed more than 5 mg! I wonder who/why you were instructed to hold off the Lovenox. Normally, after surgery, Lovenox and warfarin are restarted together, and...

    Resting heart rate after surgery

My resting heart rate was higher than before the surgery for many months before it settled down. It went up to high 90s with any move I made despite the metoprolol I was taking. Some hearts need more time to readjust/heal from the trauma of what they went through!

Edited: added word “not” before “mean”. Pellicle, knew you were joking. I was joking too! I did not mean any offense… my words were heart to heart!😊

    Adderall and Aneurysm/Heart Disease

In brief, I don’t encourage any of these pills unless one cannot function at all without them. My memory was affected after my surgery and I thought adderrall was helpful, but it wasn’t worth its side effects at night nor its slow damaging effect on my heart. This is me…it may not affect others...

Longest period known before aortic valve replacement needed

To my best recollection in brief: started in 1970, surgery was in 2008. Early 1970: age 19. Heart murmur was detected. Late 1970: Aortic insufficiency — no symptoms 1986: age 35. Mild aortic insufficiency — No symptoms 1992: Moderate aortic insufficiency and severe mitral insufficiency and...

    Hubby back in a-fib. *sigh*

I’ll share with you what happened to me, hoping you may feel better and have faith your hubby will be fine after all this. I stayed in the hospital for around 10 days in the ICU. Their reason was there were no rooms available which I believe was a lie! I was in a bad shape but they didn’t want...

    Post Operative Cognitive Dysfunction

Hope this is temporary! some of my friends’ relatives had this … it was a side effect of a new medication they were put on!

    Post Operative Cognitive Dysfunction

Me, yes! Before my surgery at 57, I never needed to write reminder notes or shopping lists! I kept track of all my, my husband’s, and my sister’s doctors’ and dentists’ appointments in my head. When I ran errands, I would handle several different tasks at once, all from memory.

    Cardiac Ablation for Intermittent Arrhythmia

@3mm , you’re welcome. Last August, I was hospitalized (hospital x) for Atrial Flutter, which I believe was triggered by the stress of stopping warfarin, taking Lovenox, and undergoing a breast biopsy. During my stay, numerous doctor/residents suggested and pushed that I undergo ablation. To...

    New member & “bloody” question

I understand the dentist thinks the mouthguard is fine. But did the bleeding start after you started the mouthguard? IF SO, can you sleep without the mouthguard for a couple of nights? Just a thought!

    Cardiac Ablation for Intermittent Arrhythmia

I wonder if the events recorded on the Holter monitor can be used as a guide! Two years ago my AFib was treated with Cardioversion. Before we settled on Cardioversion, my electrophysiologist recommended EP study. The printout he gave to me states that during the EP Study, “once the catheter...
