    15 Years!

15th Anniversary today. I’m not on here much, but after 15 yrs I still check in once in a while. This forum and the people were a life saver. (do miss the chat every Wednesday & Sunday) It’s been 15 years since that dreaded day – a day my family wishes not to remember and that’s totally...

Hey Strangers - Home INR Testing

Well Hello to you too Stranger. Been using the same CoaguchekXS for about 12yrs. No upgrade & no issues. One thing I've learned though is to always keep an extra batteries with the meter. The battery indicator on the monitor may show 2 bars which isn't always enough to complete the test. P.S...

    Coagucheck XS Test Strips

Prices may may be different throughout Canada, but in my Province I paid $183.31CDN including taxes for 24 strips = 118 EUR. Yup I'm getting ripped off.

    Lab vs Home Test

FWIW A lab tech told me that they take 3 samples from your blood draw then average out the clotting time and allow a 0.2 or 0.3 (+/-) in the reading.

What do you think about my GP’s recommendation re Warfarin dosage! Please advise. Thanks.

First problem was the nurse taking the 3rd sample instead of taking the 1st drop. This nurse should read the instructions. If the first drop was taken you may have been above 2.5 I have the same range and my dosage is 6-6-5-6-6-5-6. I it marked on my calendar so I don't screw up lol. Good luck.

Never ending INR issues- warning LONG post

I also had low readings with the recall test strips. I agree she needs to be tested properly and if she does have her own meter she should get a test kit like I did from Roche.

But they were sold in Canada but there was no recall. The Lot number I had was on the list.

Never ending INR issues- warning LONG post

PTN: My response was to Vitdoc as he mentioned: "The meter could be the culprit but again these marked swings still would be hard to expect that much meter/strip error". FYI there was no recall in Canada.

Never ending INR issues- warning LONG post

Vitdoc: FWIW: I used recalled strips and the results had a BIG swing. Meter results were 4.5 (lab 3.2), 5.0 (lab 3.4) and 4.8 (lab 3.0) to name a few.

Never ending INR issues- warning LONG post

FWIW: Have you looked into your test strips? They may have been on the recall list. There was NO recall here in Canada and I had received 2 different (6 month supply each) of strips from my pharmacist. After some searching on my own, I contacted Roche and they sent me a test kit to check my...

Smaller gauge lancet (bigger needle diameter)

FWIW, I've looked into a smaller/larger lancet for the Softclix, Roche/Coagulachek XS only comes in a 21 gauge. I suppose one could try a diabetic lancet....dunno After washing my hands, I wrap two fingers in the damp paper towel until the skin gets wrinkled/pruned looking, it works for me for...

    Microbleeds during heart surgery

At the time I just assumed the ******* female was a neurologist, which is why my GP referred me to another one to get a second opinion. Thank - you for the compliment on the age hahaha, but soon to be 8yrs older than yourself. But hey, I've always wanted a younger brother since I'm the...

    Microbleeds during heart surgery

I believe they found 4 or 5 microbleeds and no I don't have any symptoms. The reason for seeing a neurologist....a long story. I was experiencing a constant dizziness, CT and MRI was done within the hospital and the results where given to some ******* female neurologist in the hospital who said...

    Microbleeds during heart surgery

Sorry for the misspelling - I should know better than to respond to a post 10min after waking up. Yes Tom in MO it was my neurologist who told me this and my family doctor also confirmed that the mirco-bleeds were cause by the by-pass-machine. Again: yes I did have a MRI done and a CT with dye...
