INR - How low should you go?

I got my On-X in June of 2022. I made it 9 months of 1.7-2.0 INR with aspirin before I had a stroke! Since then I implore anyone with an On-X to go the “safer” route and stay around 2.5-3.0. I got very lucky and didn’t have any lasting detriments from my stroke. But it took a toll mentally that...

    Sprinting?

Listen to your cardiologist. A leaking valve will put more stress on your heart and can lead to worse things like aneurysms. Very light cardio is probably all that will be recommended. The may put you on a bp medication also.

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, confusion, bewilderment, …, etc. after my recent “Bubble echo” test, which uncovered a hole in my heart.

I can say, with 100% certainty, that I would get the mechanical valve again. I was 39 when I had OHS. I read for months on the reliability and longevity of mechanical valves. I would never push my decision on anyone but, when asked my recommendation, I would advise to get a mechanical in most...

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, confusion, bewilderment, …, etc. after my recent “Bubble echo” test, which uncovered a hole in my heart.

It definitely is. I just try not to take anymore meds than I have to because I’m crazy.

That’s a great policy to have! The Coumadin Clinic had told me from the beginning that they self-test machines are +/- 20%. I always try to stay a little high for that reason.

I can’t speak for everyone on here but I can’t fathom going through OHS again. For that reason alone I always recommend the mechanical option. Keep the INR close to 3.0 and live your life!

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, confusion, bewilderment, …, etc. after my recent “Bubble echo” test, which uncovered a hole in my heart.

I took an aspirin when my INR was 1.5-2.0. But when the cardiologist raised me to the new range they said it wasn’t necessary anymore.

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, confusion, bewilderment, …, etc. after my recent “Bubble echo” test, which uncovered a hole in my heart.

I tested the day before at home and was 1.8 and when the ambulance got me to the hospital they did a blood test because they can’t administer clot busting meds over a certain INR. My INR at the hospital was 1.7.

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, confusion, bewilderment, …, etc. after my recent “Bubble echo” test, which uncovered a hole in my heart.

Yes. I tested weekly at home and reported to the Coumadin Clinic who kept me 1.5-2.0, based on my cardiologist’s order. I was 1.7 the day of the stroke when I got to the hospital. Unlike many others on here, I have a great relationship with my Coumadin Clinic. They only monitor me and help keep...

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, confusion, bewilderment, …, etc. after my recent “Bubble echo” test, which uncovered a hole in my heart.

The stroke was most likely caused by a clot from the valve due to low INR. The PFO may have provided an avenue for the clot to pass through. It blew my mind that I went through such an extensive heart surgery and mounds of testing prior and they never did a bubble test to see the PFO until after...

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, confusion, bewilderment, …, etc. after my recent “Bubble echo” test, which uncovered a hole in my heart.

Yes. The stroke occurred on the recommended 1.5-2.0 INR. I am now settled into 2.5-3.5 and typically hang around 3.0 and plan to stay there!

Feeling a whirlwind of emotions—sadness, confusion, bewilderment, …, etc. after my recent “Bubble echo” test, which uncovered a hole in my heart.

Hello, I had an AVR (On-X) and aortic graft 2 years ago last Sunday! 8 months later ai had a stroke due to a clot forming on the valve and kicking off and going to my brain. Luckily, no lasting detriments. While in the hospital recovering from my stroke they did a bubble study and, to add to...

Howdy everyone! Just found this site.

I couldn’t agree more with @pellicle. You were definitely blessed to come out on the other side of a dissection. But I know you know that. Also, I would attribute your diminished performance to the beta blockers. I had the same surgery you had at the exact same age. I am in the military and have...

    Needing advice/support.

As a parent and a recipient of heart surgery, I can only offer my support. If my child was going through this I would be in a very similar headspace. But after going through a surgery similar to what Bentley is facing I can say, modern medicine is amazing and what these cardiothoracic surgeons...

Anyone experience occasional palpitations or premature ventricular contractions?

I have had this exact same experience since my avr and aneurysm repair in June 2022. Caused some crazy cardiac anxiety so now I’m on 5mg of Lexapro (anxiety med) and they still happen but I don’t worry about them as much.

    Dosing for tooth removal

No. you aren’t understanding this. I’m not the original poster. I’m not having a dental procedure. I’m having an endoscopy. My cardiologist is taking me off warfarin 2 days prior and 2 days after. I will be on lovenox for 5 days and then back on warfarin

    Dosing for tooth removal

Yes. Will be giving myself lovenox shots for 48 hours post procedure then back on the warfarin!

    Dosing for tooth removal

I assume to let whatever possible damage that may be done heal? But I didn’t ask. I’ll just give myself the shots in the belly for 5 days and then start back.

    Dosing for tooth removal

I am having an endoscopy next week and my cardiologist has me stopping my warfarin 2 days prior and not starting back until 2 days after. He also has me bridging with lovenox while I’m off the warfarin. I have a history of clots and had a mild stroke last year so I will bridge with lovenox...
