Hope recovery is going well for you, as I say to others take it easy and build up slowly. Recovery is different for everyone. I made a list in hospital of things I wanted to do this year, hiking and travelling were at the very top. I'm glad to have done both. You'll feel a new sense of pride...

    One year anniversary

Yeah it's a scary illness to have and my doctors liked to remind me how lucky I was due to how long I had been unwell for. So the photo is from a hike I done in a place called the 'Mourne mountains' in Northern Ireland. Fun fact C.S Lewis used the landscape as inspiration for writing Narnia.

    One year anniversary

Can't believe this time last year I was going into surgery to have my aortic valve replaced with a shiny new mechanical valve. I came on this forum a few weeks before asking for advice and was blown away by how many people on here messaged me. I learnt so much from everyone on here on living...

    Hi! 38F with OnX

I feel you about this too, I enjoy getting lost in a book and I would meditate too. I recently started going to yoga which is great for relieving stress but some positions I feel the ticking can be super loud and can hold me back from fully focusing on the present. But to try to be positive its...

Anyone else feel better once they came off some medications?

Yea! I had some vision issues too, one in particular was quite scary and knocked my confidence. I just hope I continue to feel much better off the meds as I felt like they just held me back from fully getting back to feeling normal again

Anyone else feel better once they came off some medications?

Hey! Yeah I’ve been extremely cautious to exercise, my cardiologist thinks I’m being too cautious with it. He told me something along the lines those medications weren’t really exercise friendly and would explain why I felt the way I did. I know it’s early days being off them but the difference...

Anyone else feel better once they came off some medications?

So I had my mechanical valve done last November one of the issues post surgery was left ventricle dysfunction which resulted in me being put on around 4 heart medications. Bisoprolol, Dapagliflozin, eplerenone and candesartan. I noticed since around April of this year I only felt around 80% back...

    PFO Closure Experience

Hey, When I was getting my bicuspid valve replaced with a mechanical valve they also closed a VSD (which was known before surgery) but will they were operating on me they found a PFO which hadn’t been picked up and they closed it up too. Not sure I notice any difference around that more...

    Tofu/soy and warfarin?

Congrats on getting your cholesterol down with the new diet! I bet you feel better for it too. My warfarin dose is small compared to some others, 3mg 5 days a week and 4mg 2 days a week. I feel like my INR might be easily swayed one way or the other when it comes to upping my dosage and eating...

    Tofu/soy and warfarin?

My average is 2.3 according to my device I would probably want to be higher than that (2.5) but no biggie. The first thing I bought post surgery was a pill box, makes its so much easier to manage everything plus on the iphone health app you can manage medications and set reminders too. this is...

    Tofu/soy and warfarin?

Yeah, I self test once a week but don’t self dose yet. In 7 months I’ve been out of range twice (both times 1.8), I ring my nurse who normally sees me that day and gives me a new dose. so far they just increased my dose by 1mg a week which seems to get me back on track. (5 days 3mg 2 days 4mg)...

    Tofu/soy and warfarin?

Hi all, Haven’t posted on here for a while but I’ve been lurking. I had my valve replaced back in November (7 months exactly) with a shiny new on-x value so I’ve been on warfarin since with the range of 2.0 to 3.0. Been mostly doing well im about 90% back to normal just struggle with getting...

    27 M aortic valve replacement

Hi, I(33m) had endocarditis last year which resulted in me being in hospital for 7 weeks getting IV antibiotics for 6 of those weeks. I really feel for you as it was a long time to be in hospital and all the worries that come with it. They done an echo on my heart at the end of the 6 weeks of...

On-x valve, what medications are you on post surgery?

Yeah I knew about the warfarin being for life. It was more the aspirin for life wasn’t something that was made clear to me before the surgery.

On-x valve, what medications are you on post surgery?

Hey all, I had an appointment with the surgeon and was told I would be on the low dose aspirin for life as well as warfarin, my understanding was the aspirin was a short term medication for 3 months. Their justification for this is they view it as a safety net. I’m in a bunch of other meds...

Endocarditis leading to AVR - my story

Hi Jim! 32 year old here from the UK who had infective endocarditis which went on from May to August before finally getting diagnosed (I feel lucky I didn't drop dead during that time due to how unwell I was). I was in hospital for antibiotics for 7 weeks in August until late Sept. Looked like...

I will have my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve next week

just another update. Was told today that the left ventricle wasn't working as well as before surgery so they have prescribed me two medications to help (didn't get the name of them) but the doctor said being young it should hopefully correct itself with help from the meds. I'll have to have...

Many UK / NHS members? Today's routine check up wasn't routine!

Glad it was helpful. I found many people's journey post extremely helpful to me in understanding what happens next then life after the op. My situation was just more complicated and unlucky with the recent endocarditis. Yours will be much better post op experience and back home in no time.
