    Yet Another Colonoscopy Question

I’m having my first since going bionic in 2022 - my INR NP is bridging me with Levonox. So helpful to see the notes and what I have to look out for. 💩

    Fruits

Haha an “aware” reader. I have been eating avacado toast without concern. We’ll see what the INR says - but confounded with antibiotics.

    INR sensititity to leafy greens

I have a couple years with the On-X since June ‘22. I had a couple dips with INR down to 1.9 but generally in that 2-3.5 range. I was a little concerned about spinach but really have not seen food impact my INR. I have not yet tried grapefruit - that may have the biggest impact. Think I have...

9 months post-AVR and cycling at my best ever

I’m using Strava to check my speed. Went to a gravel bike and increased speed by going from 650x32 to 700x25. 😀. But the exciting thing has been getting the daily plank going, and consistently getting faster on Drill Hill 7.5% grade. In Ohio, so not a long hill, but knocking that time down &...

    How often are we testing?

I’ve tested weekly since I got the home test kit, been using same finger - left ring - easier to sample since I’m right-handed. Two weeks ago the blood didn’t really flow and my test came out low -1.5. I switched to the middle finger, tested again next day, and back to 2.7. So I chalk that up...

    Sub-aortic Stenosis in small kids

Hello Hana- my Subaortic stenosis was diagnosed early and I had ped cardiologist before 5. Saw him annually, then every 6 months as the growth progressed. The cardiologist planned to wait until I was 18 for the surgery after my growth phase, to minimize chance of recurrence. That plan did not...

    47 year anniversary

Sheesh you guys are so old!😂 But then I check the calendar - 45 years since my first OHS. Full sternotomy for the sub aortic stenosis. Also a Halloween thing - maybe the 29th? I think there was extra fluid and they may have opened me up second time before I was awake, but that was good until...

Transcatheter or Surgical Replacement for Failed Bioprosthetic Aortic Valves; New study published May 22, 2024

I had every intention of TAVR for procedure#2 but the bio valve failure was not a stenotic /calcifying type of failure. Sounds like I can be glad I did not get what I wanted.

    Motorcyclists Choice

I run the slower pace wheels - bicycle - but still need to watch for cars & be aware of my surroundings. Also proper maintenance on the bike so I can stop when I need to. I have been more interested in getting back to soccer, recently, but also aware that bruising will be happening and bruises...

Surgery now not recommended after TOE/TEE

I had my pig valve break over a weekend of strong exertion - 45 mile bike rides, yard work including 70 pound ladder, 10 k run, and then when I did my evening plank, heard blood rushing around my ears. I was not symptomatic until sometime over that weekend. That was in May. Surgeon had an...

Inspiris Resilia vs On-x, can't decide

Well - I did read the link after my post and they had factored in the age of the recipient.

Inspiris Resilia vs On-x, can't decide

People with mechs live longer - is that b/c of age during the implant? 🙂 mechs are suggested - under 60? - so there are generally more years available than the bio valve change at age 70+. I tried bio valve first, then when that broke I went mechanical. So the TAVI was not an option even though...

New member - choosing a valve

We had the cicadas a few years back - WAAY louder than my ticker!

    Surgery this Wednesday

I have not been on in awhile - ski season distracted me - but Ohio ski season is pretty much done. Glad to hear you made it to this side! I have been through the process 3x - the abdomen tubes get easier but here’s hoping you never get to experience that again. It’s much better to get them out...

New member life and regrets because of the valve

Hello - happy new year - I am under the impression “Dose to the diet”. Eat basically what you want, keep it relatively consistent, and then dial in the warfarin to maintain INR - I aim for 2.5 - 3. Eat those greens and adjust dosage to hit the target.

    Imminent re-operation of heart valve

I did not want a mechanical valve on my 3rd OHS but my tissue valve from 2014 failed - broke a leaflet so it was stuck open / ineffective. All the docs I spoke with were in accord with mechanical valve and I went with that. TAVR through the femoral was not an option even though that had been my...

My bionic valve is not so noisy.

I had On-X installed just over a year ago -can hear it in a very quiet room but no one else seems to notice. It appears to be working fine even though it’s quiet. Met with cardiologist today for routine follow up. No issues, no concerns ho hum. I take aspirin in the am and warfarin at night...

Mechanical valves ... but what about the ticking?

Digressing from valve stuff - Wow that alien facehugger is disturbing!😂😂😂 I have been on CPAP since before my second surgery - my wife had enough of the snoring & I was qualified. It takes some getting used to but it is really worth it. I used to have the nasal mask and wore chin strap around...

    Resting HR post-AVR surgery

This last surgery was #3 - similar to you I was in good shape going into it - great way to get new parts. Makes the healing better - still not easy. 1-1/2 years out - I feel great but my times are slower. Is it the heart or my age? 55 yo now. Apple Watch tells me RHR = 54 but that does...
