New to BAV! Advice? (Marijuana use?)

I smoked from time to time before my first surgery, then got a blood infection and had to redo the surgery. I was smoking after my first surgery and if I had to do it again I would never inhale marijuana. In fact, there is no indication of where the blood infection came from. There are many...

    Hip Replacement

Oh wow, that's a lot to go through. I'm sorry you had a stroke and hope you're doing well now. I have heard knee replacements are a lot harder to recover from. Good luck with you rotator cuff surgery. My mom went through that at 79 and had an amazing recovering. It took a while, but now she...

    Hip Replacement

I'm glad you haven't had any issues and hope you continue in good health. Now they typically do an anterior approach with hip replacements, which is what I'm having.

    Hip Replacement

Thank you for this valuable information. I'm so glad you're doing well and are able to get off antibiotocs. I was on them with a PICC Line in 2022 and so sick. I actually felt sick after taking them for so long

What is a good watch/ wearable to measure heart rate and heart rate variability?

I love the Garmin Fenix 7. I've had Polar and I liked that as well, but Garmin has more activities in my opinion

    Hip Replacement

Hi, Has anyone here done a hip replacement? I'm due for one after 5 years of dealing with IT Band Syndrome, still knee and pain off and on with pain being pretty intense now. I just had my gallbladder removed and had a super quick recovery. My concern is not regarding bridging, since I've done...

Heart valve surgery and male impotency.

I hear this! I was emotional before my first surgery and after having two in less than 9 months I'm even more so. I try to keep the emotions in check, but another OHS friend once said, "no one will ever understand what you've been through unless they have endured it themselves".

Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

I agree. I've been very proactive about my care and question Drs when it comes to various issues. In this case I felt awful on Keppra when first taking it. They put you on a twice a day dose of 750mg. I immediately went from a happy person to depressed, sad, and very hopeless. Since decreasing...

Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

I think too many meds have many poor effects. That's why I've been somewhat dosing myself on Keppra. It made me so depressed initially

I agree, that's the frustrating part is they won't advise you due to repercussions

Open Heart surgeries and Neurological problems

Yes, she said for Grand Mal seizures I am well below the recommended dose. Unfortunately, all they see is the seizures and when there's no evidence of where they're coming from they keep you on the medication. I'm the one weaning down the drug. I told her I was.

    Tooth Extraction

Hi All! I wanted to thank you for your input on the tooth extraction. It went very smoothly on July 6th. I took a week of antibiotics before the procedure and 5 days following. The oral surgeon was able to place an implant the same day, which thrilled me since I didn't want to return. This is my...
