Wishing you all a healthy and happy new year

Hello d33gs, It seems you are doing very well, including your best riding time that occurred 6 months post op. And your current alternation between 12K hard walks and 23K bike rides is very impressive indeed. Shooting for "optimal" sounds like a smart plan. Bravo!! Have a wonderful new year!!

Ten years ago for my tissue valve.

I have been impressed and pleased since the day of my surgery in May 2005. Also, I was fortunate to have had an outstanding surgeon who was very experienced with my condition and with valve replacement procedures. He provided excellent guidance before and after the surgery. Best of luck!

17 years with my Edwards bovine

I got my valve in May, 2005, along with a graft of the ascending aorta that was discovered during the valve surgery. I was 60 at the time and playing reasonably competitive squash, holding my own against younger players. The bicuspid valve had been diagnosed via a routine echo cardiogram that...

Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

Hello Patrick. I am very glad (but not surprised) that you are happy with your Edwards Bovine. Great to read about your "12 fantastic normal years."

Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

My squash game is on hold for a time, not related to my 2002 heart surgery, but because of a recent hip replacement. I am now taking serious walks to help bring my hip back into shape and looking forward to getting back to the squash courts. As for what I can point to as contributing to the...

Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

On May 2, 2005, my bicuspid aortic valve was replaced by a wonderful, brilliant surgeon with an Edwards Perimount Magna (bovine pericardial), along with a graft of my ascending aorta. If you do the math, I've had the valve for (almost) 16 years. It has served me well through multiple (non...

How has it been since your Valve replacement?

15 years & 5+ months (5/2/05). Edwards Lifesciences Perimount Magna (bovine pericardial). Also graft of ascending aorta (Boston Scientific). I was age 60 at the time, so I am 75 (almost 76) now. As for Benjamin Franklin, his brilliance also applies to playing squash!

Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

I got my Edwards bovine pericardial valve in May, 2005, so it is 15+ years old. At the same time, I also got a graft of the ascending aorta (Boston Scientific). Both procedures went well. I was 60 years old at the time, so I am now 75. I am quite active, and the valve is still going strong.
