Tissue valve longevity: Can it last longer under certain lifestyle conditions?

I am a competative powerlifter. I had my valve replaced with an Edwards bovine valve in 2005. I lift HEAVY 4x per week for the last 20 years. Last echo my EF was 70 with only minimal calcification. Take from it what you wish.

    Surgery this Wednesday

If it's complicated then quit telling people the valve will wear out prematurely in younger or active people. And it has nothing to do with luck and everything to do with my lifestyle.

    Surgery this Wednesday

Hi Jeff, I would like to correct some mis-information you have been getting here on this forum. The truth of the matter is the more active you are the LONGER your valve will last. Athletes have a slower resting heart rate which translates into longer valve life. I am an active powerlifter with a...

Hi Sandra. You already told these people in no uncertain terms that 1. You don't want to take blood thinners and 2. You do not want to deal with the ticking sound. Weight lifting with valve and aneurysm replacement

One Dr. told me not to lift more than "25 lbs." Another told me "high reps low weight." Yet another told me "no limitations." So the only conclusion I could make from all this is that the medical community has no idea what the hell they are talking about. So I just said "screw them" and now I am...

    Tissue Valve

"52 is an age were I think that if you aren't active and sporting then a tissue isn't a bad choice." The insinuation is here that if you are active and sporting your heart rate increases and your valve will wear out faster. Actually the opposite is true. Exercise strengthens the heart and...
