New here-1 month post mitral valve replacement

I had regular open heart surgery on 10/16 (MVR, tricuspid repair, Maze procedure and LAAL) so similar timeline. I am in cardiac rehab now and it's reassuring to have the monitoring as I do different exercises, plus just the structure and accountability. The nutrition and workshops are helpful...

    Bovine Aortic Valve Turns 17

Love that for you, here's hoping your bovine buddy remains your BFF for additional years.

    50 decibel aortic valve :-|

It does seem weird. I would at least call cardiology. Could there be fluid or something like that amplifying the sound? Probably not but it’s a change. I am also wondering if you have looked into any kind of masking sound to reduce the distress you experience. My son (29M) has tinnitus and...

    Resting heart rate after surgery

Hopefully I just need to be patient and keep building fitness slowly. I am definitely frustrated by only being able to go maybe 2.8 mph on flat ground for 30 mins. Not even close to pre surgery fitness. Cardiac rehab seems to think I am doing ok. My blood pressure has been on the low side my...

    Resting heart rate after surgery

Hi all, I am four weeks out from mechanical MVR (plus tricuspid repair, Maze procedure, left atrial appendage clip, and a pacemaker). I’m curious about people’s experiences about heart rate after surgery. Although I am on metoprolol tartrate 50 mg twice a day, resting heart rate is still about...

    another aortic vale replacement!

Sorry to hear this news. At 64 for your first valve (if I did the math right) it was reasonable to expect tissue to last longer … but for whatever reason not for you. 🙁 In my case I just had a mechanical mitral put in (I’m 56 and guidelines for mitral are mech up to age 65). In addition in my...

    Mitral Valve Repair

Isn’t the range for afib usually more like 2.0 to 3.0? What is the range they gave you for afib specifically ?

    Surgery tomorrow

I found that after the first three days or so, every couple of days I felt better than I imagined was even possible just a couple days before. Wishing you a strong and smooth recovery Bee!

    I’m back home!

So glad you’re home and doing well! I had mechanical mitral valve replacement and tricuspid repair on 10/16 and am home also. Only ever heard the valve once (while in hospital with CPAP on and my mouth open). Hope things continue to go well for you and you recover strong.

    Two month after TAVR....

What do you mean that monitoring showed a “defibrillation event?” You don’t have an ICD right, so how could you have a defibrillation event? You mean an episode of arrhythmia? What kind? I recently had OHS (mitral valve replacement and tricuspid repair), developed heart block and had a...

My mitral valve was damaged by rheumatic fever (strep)

    Hubby back in a-fib. *sigh*

My INT has been steady at 2.2 since leaving the hospital, but that’s below my range of 2.5 - 3.5. They are very cautiously and slowly increasing doses. Thru Monday I will alternate 5 mg and 6 mg instead of all 5s.

    Regarding afib

Not feeling. Afib doesn’t make it benign. But yeah being anticoagualted is a huge safety benefit. I think the Kardia will be a big benefit for you guys.

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

Time for my contribution to this thread - I had mitral valve replacement and tricuspid repair as well as a maze procedure and LAAL on 10/16, followed by a pacemaker install on 10/23. I was surprised that I remember nothing at all after being in the pre op room with my husband before OHS. In my...

Longest period known before aortic valve replacement needed

I had mitral stenosis, not aortic and had a balloon-based repair in 2002. I stayed at mod or mod-severe for 22 years before becoming severe and symptomatic again this August and proceeding to MVR surgery on Oct 16. I was told that that only 3% of patients got 20 years from a repair so I was...

    Croatian New member-severe aortic stenosis?

I just had OHS 12 days ago for a more complicated surgery (mitral mechanical valve replacement, triscuspid valve repair, a maze procedure, and a left atrial appendage ligation) even with some complications, I’m already back home with zero pain. The sternal scar is actually about half healed on...

    Hubby back in a-fib. *sigh*

So glad to read that he is home. Def send a note with the afib / tachycardia episode they need all info for care. I had probably a dozen of those episodes prior to surgery and noted how long they lasted. I verified it was afib with a Kardia that I purchased which the doc said is usually pretty...

    Croatian New member-severe aortic stenosis?

Welcome to the forum, I hope you will find it helpful. Yes that AVA indicates severe stenosis and I’m not surprised they’re ordering a TEE and assuming results are confirmed, valve surgery.
