Question about Other surgery and going off blood thinners

Two doctor taking the time to talk, that would be ideal. This comunication breakdown is the nurses quoting old literature to one another. After hours of reading it seems risk with lovenox is very low, with the exception of pregnant women. Kristen After your procedure, did they start the...

Question about Other surgery and going off blood thinners

I am blown away by hospital politics. My cardio communicated that he would recommend lovenox for a bridging, and my surgery was set in stone; the best part is insurance will cover 100%. My thoracic surgeon sent a note to the plastic surgeon that stated lovenox is not recommended for valve...

shortness of breath while laying on left side

I had my mitral valve replaced in May of 2010 also. The kicker is this; when I lay on my left side, my heartbeats seem more labored and intense. When on my back or right side they are smooth and not noticeable. Just guessing here but it could be the pressure on the left ventricle that may...

Which Multivitamin Do You Take? Should it Have Vitamin K Included?

I use an all natural whole food multivitamin that has no K in it (expensive, but good stuff). I do take 90mcg of Vit K2, which helps transport calcium in the blood away from deposit areas and into the bone where it is needed; theoretically reducing calcium on artery walls and valves. At least...

Question about Other surgery and going off blood thinners

Had another meeting with the surgeon yesterday, and because the procedure is known for bleeding risk post-op, he wants me at 1.4 INR or less at the time of surgery, and for about 48 hours after the procedure. He does not want me to use lovenox post-op because there is no way to reverse the anti...

Never ending coughing, when will it stop?

Mine lasted for about four weeks, and seemed to get better as I got more active. I had a lot of fluid in the lungs before surgery so I am sure that had an affect. I would sniff that vicks sab right out of the jar for long periods of time; that seemed to help a lot. Also practiced a lot of...

effects of taking natural supplements on surgery

In my book CoQ10 is the best supliment out there for most heart issues, and a must for anyone on statins (google this if you are taking statins). I was able to take most supliments up to two days before, and then were given them back a day after surgery. Here is my coctail Coq10 L-carnitine...

For those of you who have had surgery, how long were you on the ventilator?

I woke up about three hours after the surgery, only because my cath baloon was over inflated. It felt like my bladder was going to explode. After they got picture that something was not right, they let me scrible on a pad the phrase "pee". They deflated the bag and I was back in lala land...

Question about Other surgery and going off blood thinners

Here are a couple general questions for the masses. 1) Are mitral valve clots considered more dangerous that throwing a clot from another valve? 2) Do newer bi-leaflet valves have less risk of forming a clot I had a final meeting with the surgeon yesterday, and he seemed very concerned about...

    How is your memory?

I am over a year post op, and my brain still feels like mush some times. Before surgery I could multi task like a champ, now I forget what I was doing mid stream. I often wonder if the heart lung machine or the anesthesia drugs take something from you.

Mechanical aortic valves and weight lifting

Every cardio I have ever seen in my last 25 years tells me No heavy weights. I have never gotten a straight answer on what light weight means though. When looking at bench press, 50lbs is nothing, but for curls is it heavy. My interpretation is how you respond to the weight, and do you...

Question about Other surgery and going off blood thinners

Yes, I do home test. Were you able to get your testing supply company to petition your insurance to cover additional test strips? My main concern was the risk of that 24 hour period where blood is at almost normal coagulation. When does stroke risk become a real issue?

Question about Other surgery and going off blood thinners

I have not posted in a while, so I hope you don’t hold that against me. I am just over a year of having my mitral valve replaced with a St Jude mechanical. Aside from still having the underlying cardiomyopathy I am doing very well. I would like to get some elective plastic surgery to clean...

    Please define Shortness of Breath

For me it was having to take deep breaths when laying down; as if I was not getting enough air. It helps to sleep with a fan. Just before my surgery, I felt more over-all weekness when going up steps than shortness of breath. Either way, it is the one of the worst symptoms of heart disease.

    Last day of Amioderone!

Just my 2 cents, I think the high dosage of fish oil I take helped with my afib. I got my doc to prescribe me 4mg of Laveza a day. It just so happens they have a trial at Vanderbilt that is studying just that, and the effectie dose for this study is 4mg per day.
