July 23rd: My Olympics start sooner :-)

Wishing you the best, tomorrow! Had the same procedure done 4-weeks ago. You've got this, keep us updated and go for the gold ;).

Surgery tomorrow- time to lock in :)

Hi! It was supposed to be an aortic valve repair (to spare my native valve) + ascending and aortic root aneurysm repair with a graft. They ended up finding the valve and aneurysm more severe so they did a bentall and put the mechanical valve in and still did the valsalva graft + ascending...

Surgery tomorrow- time to lock in :)

Hi! Yes, it is much better at this point (~3.5 weeks post-op). I feel like I turned a corner in regards to pain at around the 3 week mark. I’m not on any pain medication currently and just have a dull ache occasionally (1-2/10). I feel like my mini sternotomy with the sternal plating helped...

Does what generic pharmaceutical company used make a difference?

Thank you for your response. Since I’ve never needed any prescriptions prior to this procedure the whole process is new to me! In your experience, if I stick to the same pharmacy (mine is actually a part of the hospital I work at since I get a discount for using them), do they typically keep...

    mechanical-heart-valve-noise-may-cause-sleepless-nights

From my (limited 2-week experience)... Yes, I notice it however it is easy to tune out and I echo everyone above when I say it gives me peace knowing it is "clicking" and working. My wife is able to notice it as well, but has no issues whatsoever with it- we have been sleeping with a white...

Does what generic pharmaceutical company used make a difference?

Thank you for that! It seems like my pharmacy doesn’t use ‘one’ generic brand and it seems to be different depending on when I fill a script. Seems to be good advice all around to just quality check and get more data as I can. I don’t have access to a home meter yet- (just 2-weeks out) but...

    Post-Surgical Sinus Tachycardia

I’ll take some of the flack here! I think Pellicle is frustrated because he has offered many times to go over the INR management spreadsheet with me. I have been busy with a wife and 2-month old newborn and will be the first to admit I haven’t made the time. I am planning on talking with him...

Does what generic pharmaceutical company used make a difference?

Hi all, New to Warfarin therapy and might have a stupid but curious question here :) I have both 2mg and 4mg tablets now, both are generic (one is manufactured by Teva and one is Amneal Pharmaceuticals). Does anyone know if there is a difference in potency/efficacy between brands? From my...

    Post-Surgical Sinus Tachycardia

No worries at all! That’s why I love this community- we all care about each other and get worried/want the best! I appreciate the advice nonetheless! If I wasn’t on the lovenox, I too, would be concerned. I do agree about advocating for a higher dose increase than 1mg (especially as my reading...

    Post-Surgical Sinus Tachycardia

I should add… Dose when it was 1.4 was 5mg. They had me take 8mg today, and then 6 following today until Friday. I already have a plan to call them tomorrow and see if I can continue the 8mg dose until Friday instead to see if that moves the needle more.

    Post-Surgical Sinus Tachycardia

Thank you so much for your response and your concern! They actually adjusted me up to 8mg today and 6mg every day after until they recheck on Friday. In the meantime, I’ve been on Lovenox injections 1x daily (same time as my warfarin dose) until I am back in therapeutic range (>2.0 per the...

    Post-Surgical Sinus Tachycardia

Hi! It still ebbs and flows, honestly! Sometimes it rests in the 80’s and sometimes it still rests above 100 (but under 115) just depending on time of day it seems. Still on 50mg metoprolol 2x a day and hoping as the weeks go on, I see more of the 80’s and not as much of the 100’s. I also...

    Post-Surgical Sinus Tachycardia

Hi! Plates will remain in my body as more ‘junk’ forever but hoping it allows continued stability for anything higher impact down the road. They just bumped up my metrapolol to 50mg 2x a day and it’s still running 100-110- seems to have some relief upon initial intake- worse towards end of...

    Post-Surgical Sinus Tachycardia

Yes! My surgeon has been following a lot of research regarding early healing and mobility. Plating is used to reinforce wires so both are still used. Pending symptoms, here are the updated guidelines approved by our 4 hospital surgeons for plating at discharge and the weeks following. It...

    Post-Surgical Sinus Tachycardia

Hi all, I am now day 5 post- “1. Minimally invasive mechanical composite root replacement via modified bentall conduit (On-X valve 27/29 mm / 26 mm Gelweave Valsalva graft) 2. Left main intramural coronary artery unroofing 3. Sternal plating” And since day 2-3 I have been having...

Surgery tomorrow- time to lock in :)

Hi all, Finally getting around to post an update. Surgery went well. My surgeon was unable to repair the valve due to: “The valve was type 0 bicuspid and removed in its entirety. The sinus portion of the left and right sinus was both a true paper thin sinus of valsalva aneurysm and not...

Surgery tomorrow- time to lock in :)

Hi all, I have my planned 5cm aortic root aneurysm repair + bicuspid valve repair (possible mechanical valve replacement if it cannot be repaired once they opens me up) tomorrow mid-morning. 2 months of waiting and lots of great advice from this forum have led to this. Feeling a sense of peace...

26M 5.1cm Aortic Root Aneurysm + Bicuspid Valve Surgery

Thank you so much for both of your posts. You both pose a great point that I fully agree with. I am actually fully comfortable with the current technology of mechanical valves (w/ the On-X) and if the repair isn't viable, I have told my surgeon to use one- I think it's a great device. My...

26M 5.1cm Aortic Root Aneurysm + Bicuspid Valve Surgery

Thank you for your input as well-- that is my concern but seeing as I have moderate regurgitation already and am currently asymptomatic (likely due to young age/no other cardiac/pulmonary issues) I am okay if it last 10+ years before getting the mechanical. Also due to likely banking on new...

26M 5.1cm Aortic Root Aneurysm + Bicuspid Valve Surgery

Thank you! I actually did somewhat mispeak on this topic. He did say that a redo-mini does increase the risk from 1% to ~1.5-2% but still marginal enough to justify potentially having a second surgery. I did tell my surgeon that if he is in the procedure and the repair he attempts does not seem...
