    Beta blockers

thanks mbeard ... likewise to you as well. I'm in the same boat with you ... was told it was to keep my heartrate down ... with as active as I've become, it's probably not a bad idea ...

    Beta blockers

Followed up with my cardiologist yesterday (4 months) post-op & I'm still taking them ... made it sound like I'll be on them for life.

is it normal to be on all these medications after surgery ?

Totally normal ... if you have a mechanical valve, you'll be taking the warfarin for the rest of your life.

    2nd of April surgery done

Good to hear you're now in the friendly confines of home ... I had my AVR back in December at age 38. I was tired a lot & had shortness of breath too ... you'll get better, it's just a slow process. Listen to your body more than anything.

    Cardiac Rehab Question

Hi ... I agree with the statements about waiting until you can drive. I did cardiac rehab sessions for about 3 weeks. I found it to be beneficial from a mental standpoint. There was a sense of comfort knowing that I'm being monitored while pushing myself physically. I highly recommend doing...

    push-ups, yoga, etc ...

thanks for the feedback everyone! Thank you very much mbeard ... when you have the surgery, you'll have the same desire to get back to your old self. Just looking at your profile pic, you have all the motivation in the world to get back to being better that before (I have an 8-year old &...

    push-ups, yoga, etc ...

I'm now 3 1/2 months post-surgery for my AVR ... I've been doing some light jogging, light weight lifting (w/ chest presses & flies). However, I'm looking to get back into my workout routine I was on before I got sick & had the surgery. It's an intense form of yoga called DDP Yoga ... combines...

Being tired ... when does it end?

Hi Chris ... glad you found this place too ... it's been a great resource for me since I had my valve replacement in December. The support here is fantastic. I'd been feeling more tired recently & experiencing some chest discomfort/light pain. This was 13 weeks post-surgery. Called the...

Being tired ... when does it end?

so after feeling pretty good for a few weeks, I feel like I've regressed ... it's been 13 weeks since my surgery & I'm starting to feel more tired than I did just a month ago ... also, my chest has been a lot more sore lately & I haven't been doing anything out of the norm to make it that way...

    weird symptoms

I felt a similar sensation in my left arm about 3 weeks after surgery ... I thought it was because, at getting some post-surgery bloodwork done, I felt like someone hit a nerve. However, the tingling sensation didn't occur until a couple days after the blood work ... it lasted on & off for 7 to...

Post Surgery turn out. Just want to compare procedures...

I'll be 11 weeks post-op tomorrow ... I haven't really noticed a shortness of breath in myself lately ... as a matter of fact, I'd forgotten about having them until I read your post ... being 8 weeks post-op, I feel you're on the cusp of many "breakthroughs" ... remember, it's the little...

Dental Care ~ 1st appointment to the denist in a month, previous endo, worried!

pretty sure I got endocarditis after my routine bi-annual teeth cleaning ... I can't tie it back to anything else ... that being said, I like to think the endocarditis could've been a positive thing ... if I had an abnormal valve, I may have never known until it was too late ...

Being tired ... when does it end?

I decided to push myself at the Y on Saturday ... 10 weeks post-open heart surgery, I ran a mile (albeit in 1/2 mile intervals; walked 1/2 mile, run 1/2 mile X 2) ... I felt like I'd climbed Mt. Everest!

Post Surgery turn out. Just want to compare procedures...

Hi Pete, I'm 10 weeks post-op with an St. Judes AVR ... I just started feeling less tired this week ... I've started back to work & am getting in a routine (i.e. going to bed earlier, not taking naps, etc.). This past week, I started drinking a protein shake everyday ... not saying that's the...

Being tired ... when does it end?

I think just getting back into a normal routine is half the battle ... not getting that afternoon nap I'd become accustomed to, ya know? :) I'm gonna push myself a little harder at the Y tomorrow. I'd already been using a heart monitor with my DDP Yoga, as that's an important piece of that...

Being tired ... when does it end?

thanks for the responses everyone ... I'm on 12.5mg of metoprolol daily (down from the 25mg I was on just a couple of weeks ago). The bloodwork that I had done a couple of weeks ago came back fine (i.e. the cardiologist didn't seem concerned over anything from the report). I seem to feel...

Being tired ... when does it end?

Hi all ... newbie here with my first post ... My name is Adam & I had an AVR (St. Jude's) on 12/20/13 after a bout of endocarditis. I was 38 (now 39) and in the best shape of my & BAM, this smacked me right in the face. Not to bombard with questions, but my main ones are: --How long did it...
