    slow recovery

That Garmin 305 is pretty slick, and you are definitely doing well. Eventually you will have real fun when you start conquering hills then mountains. I use an old Garmin 60CS hiking gps to track our crazy-hilly, off-trail hikes in our local national park but it doesn't track heart rate. I...

Am I wrong about pre-existing condition?

$8,000 was a LOT of money in 1967, equivalent to $55,000+ in 2012 dollars. The nanny state you wish for is not for me and not for a majority of Americans, as you will see this November. My OHS is going to cost me plenty even with my insurance but I will not be getting free money from other...

Am I wrong about pre-existing condition?

I realize that you cannot defend this Obama Socialist Administration by showing successes so you must try to trap me into wasting space to refute your attempts to re-write history to make up for an incompetent President Obama. Don’t you remember that in the wake of a recession that began...

Am I wrong about pre-existing condition?

I knew it was coming, it was only a matter of time, all Democrats resort to the ‘It’s Bush’s fault’ excuse for the utter failure of Big Government deficit spending ‘Stimulus’ legislation which failed to stop the economic chaos of the Obama Recession. You say YOU allowed some bank to "gamble"...

Am I wrong about pre-existing condition?

Yes I have strong feelings; it is unfortunate that our Government is so HUGE that it affects almost every aspect of our daily lives. I fully expected Big Government Democrats on this Forum to ridicule me personally for my views. Gee, you mention Medicare, why do we need yet another layer of...

Am I wrong about pre-existing condition?

Please, that lack of healthcare for '30 million' is a propaganda tool used by the Big Government political party (Democrats). Most of those millions choose not to buy insurance. We in the USA, for the most part, value our heritage of freedom and liberty with Constitutional protection from Big...

Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

Why didn't you get a mechanical valve which should last a lifetime? OHS with its long, anguishing recovery is a debilitating process I only want to go through ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tom

    well, i made it

The food did not taste too good after my surgery but the nurses explained that this is a common side effectsof the anesthesia. It takes a long time for the powerful drugs to leave your system. The food looked better than it tasted. Tom

Am I wrong about pre-existing condition?

There is NO WAY in HE11 that Big Government, Forced healthcare laws will improve anything. Somebody is going to PAY and Pay dearly (guess who) Now our Healthcare is a political football. I suggest getting surgery before the Big Gov laws take full effect. Sorry for the rant but Socialized...

    slow recovery

I'm starting to resign myself to a long period of pathetic inactivity (relatively speaking). I called the Cleveland Clinic post-surgery help nurse asking about cardiac therapy and she was sorry to tell me that I won't be approved for therapy for 6 WEEKS after surgery. For this OHS I gave up my...

    slow recovery

I always knew that good pre-surgery fitness would help with recovery and even though my cardiologist had me on restricted exercise protocols I was routinely cycling and doing my phys ed style exercises up until the day before surgery. Reading the many posts here concerning recovery time kept me...

    slow recovery

We are much alike Scott, in that we both live in the Cleveland area, are bicyclists and had Dr. Pettersson's hands inside our hearts. As you can see I have the SJM Trifecta tissue aortic valve and am somewhat older than you (63). I've been seriously bicycling for 35 some years. I'm only 11 days...

Cleared to Run 15 Days Post Op!!!

I have an appointment with a couple of 14,000'+ mountain peaks in Colorado in August, I guess I'm kidding myself.....:frown2: But I'll see what happens and go from there. Tom

Cleared to Run 15 Days Post Op!!!

What kind of valve did you get? Tissue or mechanical. I have a bunch of Polar heart rate monitor data on a spreadsheet from 2008 and 2009. I'm a serious road cyclist and mountain hiker so I will be comparing my new heart's performance with my old data. Have you compared your historical hrm...

Aspirin as effective as Warfarin - New Study confirms

Does taking aspirin affect one's INR? I've been taking aspirin daily for about 20 years or so; initially the low dose 81mg but changed to normal dose, 325mg, about five years ago. I had a blood test last week as part of my pre-op for my June 6th AVR job and my INR was 1.0. (yes, I took one 325mg...

Aspirin as effective as Warfarin - New Study confirms

Are those who die of complications due to their mechanical valve listed as dying of 'heart failure'? I think the term 'heart failure' may cover all the bases; the study report is not very specific. I'm still deciding tissue vs mechanical so this study interested me. Tom
