    Dog Bite/Nip

So, my 8 mo. old puppy accidentally nicked the base of my thumbnail tonight pretty good & it bled some. Took about 5 minutes to get it to stop bleeding. My INR is still running high at 4.2, but I'm in the process of bringing it down. We cleaned the thumbnail w. Hibiclens antiseptic soap...

    Mechanical Mitral Valvers?

Well, my tissue valve in the mitral position wore out in 1 year! Went from doing just fine in Aug. 2016 to absolutely horrid by March 2017. Have read good things about the St. Jude's.

    Mechanical Mitral Valvers?

Seems that I read more about mechanical aortic valves than I do mechanical mitral valves. I have read that mitral valves are more prone to throwing a clot than the aortic & other valves, which is why surgeons suggest a higher INR range for the mitral. However, my surgeon also told me that...

    Today's INR

Interesting. Didn't consider that loose bowel movement could alter INR. Posts like this is the very reason I really like this forum. My INR was 2.4 today - down from 6.3 Wednesday. The clinic lady put me on a lower dose of 7.5mg tonight (Friday), 6mg Saturday, 7.5mg Sunday, 7.5mg Monday...

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

I'm basically doing the same thing. Not exactly sure what physical therapy they have in mind either, but I'll take what I can if it helps. This is such a slowwwww process. I hide out in a corner of the gym & do 5-8lb. curls forever just to feel a minimal pump. Like you, doing a lot of...

    Today's INR

Wow...and I thought I was having a rough go of it? Yea', admittedly, patience is not my best attribute either. Can tell this is going to be a lot slower recovery than I anticipated. Thank you for the input - take care.

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

Ok - book sounds just like what I've looking for. Beginning physical therapy next week, but don't think that's the same thing as cardiac rehab. Thanks for tips.

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

Yes, I am seeing that this is going to take a lot longer than I anticipated. Was back to bench pressing after 5 weeks of the minimally invasive OHS (my first surgery)....not gonna' happen this time. Know what you mean about the muscles catabolizing. In 10 short days the diff. was absolutely...

    Today's INR

Today's INR reading was 5.8 at the clinic using the CoaguChek XS. The did a blood draw & the INR came back at 6.3! The lady had me skip tonight's dose & drink 2 cups of "strong" green tea in an attempt to bring down my INR (which I think will do very little). She then instructed me to take...

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

Ok - will look into this. But, as already mentioned, I can tell that it will be a lot longer than 8-10 weeks to start doing push-ups or any torso engagement. Like you indicated about yourself, I can't even think of it right now w.out grimacing :confused2:!

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

I know. That's why I put "girl push-ups" in quotes. No such thing, but I knew what he was referring to. And I do understand not to put any stress on the eternal area. My goodness, I can still barely move my torso...No way I could engage my pectorals. I am actually going to the gym now, but...

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

True. Was feeling aggravated about all of this @ only 49 yrs. old a couple of nights ago - when I saw a post by a young man who just had his 7th OHS. Ummm, kinda' humbled me a bit. Yea, 5 weeks post-op.

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

Got it. The thing that I guess troubles me a bit is that the surgeons indicated I should be back to working out doing "girl push-ups" in 8-10 weeks. Well, an outright miracle will need to take place for that to happen at this point! I still have to move around very carefully or the sternum...

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

Thanks! I begin physical therapy (I assume that's the same as rehab?) @ around the 7 week mark. I wanted to give the bones plenty of time to heal first. Walking about 3 miles/day & doing extremely light toning-up work (e.g., 5 lb. curls, air squats, etc.). Not looking forward to rehab though...

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

Okay - got it. Sure hope you're right on this one. Getting rather annoyed w. the waiting process....but sure beats risking disunion.

    Al Lodwick?

I am assuming that Mr. Lodwick is either retired or deceased? I'm thinking the paypal accounts for his advice no longer work? Man, sure would love to glean from the man if possible - and would be glad to pay for his services from what I've read so far. of course, the same is true for...

    Sternal Pain 5 Weeks Post-Op.?

Yes, very helpful. My surgeon told me I could begin doing "girl-pushups" after 10 weeks, but, at this point, the idea of any kind of "push-up" makes me shiver :Face-Crying:! It's looking like it's going to be a lot longer recovery than I anticipated. Thanks again.

    Al Lodwick?

I have read a ton about Al Lodwick & his warfarin knowledge, but cannot locate his website or info. other than little snippets on-line. Any one have any links or book-info. on him? Like several on this forum, he seems like someone I would have liked to have learned from (would still like to...
