    Sternal Wire Removal?

Whew! Very relieving. Thank you for every response. Kind of odd that this would pop up after a year & 6 mos. post-op. But, the wires are definitely becoming quite the issue. I can feel them just under the skin - esp. at the top of the sternum. I would surmise that removal of the wires...

    Sternal Wire Removal?

I am considering getting my sternal wires removed since they bother me at the top of my sternum. How painful was that for those of you that have had it done, and how long was your recovery? I would imagine that they have to put you under general anesthesia, which, for me, means a catheter...

    Blow to Head Tonight

Oh, incidentally, I am considering getting my sternal wires removed since they bother me at the top of my sternum. How painful was that for those of you that have had it done, and how long was your recovery? I would imagine they they have to put you under general anesthesia, which, for me...

    Blow to Head Tonight

Thank y’all much for your input. I spoke with 2 Drs. & they both said they thought I would be okay since I didn’t break the skin - and, the bruising is not as bad as I thought it would be. They also told me what to watch for and act upon immediately should such manifestations appear...

    Blow to Head Tonight

That’s the same thing the nurse told me just now on the phone. She has a Dr. calling me in a bit. Good points as usual mate (was hoping you would chime in). What got my attention is that it really rang my bell super hard. Will await the Drs. input, but I would be willing to wager that he...

    Blow to Head Tonight

Tonight I was running from my puppy in the house and accidentally slammed my head into the brick fireplace. A fairly large knot immediately popped up. This is the first time this has happened since being anticoagulated. INR tested at 2.0 tonight, so not very high, but not sure what to do...

    Coaguchek xs test strips.recall

Ahh, good idea. Yeah, I couldn’t agree more about the free market & the good ol’ USA . Patently ridiculous IMO.

    Coaguchek xs test strips.recall

Actually, after I posted that above I went to eBay (an Aussie told me to do that once :)) & I ordered 48 strips just to get them in my hand before Roache stops all external vendors from selling their supplies. I do see where someone in Germany is selling them, but, of course, things get a...

    Coaguchek xs test strips.recall

Soo, today I get the email from Wilburn Medical stating that they can no longer supply Roache strips for the CoaguChek XS if you are not going through a home monitoring company, that is, if you are just testing independently. What on earth?! So now I am stuck with this brand new CoaguChek XS...

Got it. Thank you much! Hope you are well. Will just keep my batch then . This thread was the first thing that hit my mind when I saw the email.

    Coaguchek xs test strips.recall

Sooo, I just got an email tonight from my strip provider - and I talked to Roache - both of whom said to throw the strips away. The lot number for my strips was on the US Roache recall list. However, tonight I tested on my Coag-Sense & tested 1.9 (I am running a little low right now). I...

mitral valve repair and dental work

Incidentally, all of my surgeons & cardios (& trust me, I have had many over the last 3 years) have strongly indicated that under NO circumstances am I to have dental work without prophylactic protection of at least 2,000 mg. of amoxicillin 1 hour beforehand. just sayin.

mitral valve repair and dental work

Yea’, that worry was in the back of my mind, but, I figured they could replace blood cells quicker than they could brain cells (as someone smart once told me ;)). Lesson learned the hard way, next time I will wait longer than 3 hours to resume AC therapy. First I ever read about 3,000 mg...

mitral valve repair and dental work

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the prophylactic protocol was 2,000 mg (or g?) 1 hour before dental procedures? There’s absolutely no way I would not have prophylactic care before cleanings. I have them every 4 months & always take 2,000 mg of amoxicillin. I had had an endoscopy...

    Yet Another Colonoscopy Question

Well, just as I suspected, my cardio. told me today that I would be fine to go off of all anticoagulation for 5 days prior to procedure. He actually said that Bridging poses more potential risks than just stopping warfarin for 5 days. The gastroenterologists seem adamant that I not even...

    Yet Another Colonoscopy Question

Thank you men. Tom, my concern is that there is greater risk of stroke with the mitral valve. And, several others I have spoken with say “no way” they would stop Coumadin for 5 days without bridging. My Coumadin clinic lady said the same thing. She said she would prescribe me the lovenox if...

    Yet Another Colonoscopy Question

I am sure y’all weary w. answering this question, but today I met w. a gastroenterologist who is in the process of scheduling me for a colonoscopy & endoscopy. They are suggesting that I stop my warfarin 5 days before the procedure...with no bridging! My cardiologist is saying the same...

    Question About New Coaguchek XS?

Got it. Good info. My GP office told me today that I can acquire a meter independently and just call my INR score in. No way I'm going to pay that kind of $$ - gotta' love the American health-care system :confused2:. Appreciate the input.

    Question About New Coaguchek XS?

My GP Dr. just sent in a prescription for a new monitor so I can switch over to him for coumadin care. The clinic has been great, but, as y'all know, it greatly inhibits my travel plans. And, after 1.5 yrs. on coumadin I think I have the hang of it. Here's my quandry: My VA insurance will...

    Post-op anxiety

For some ultra odd reason I was in denial about my post-operative anxiety - and made some enemy’s along the way that I wish I would not have made. Feel quite angry with myself about it now. My fault. Of course, having 2 OHS within 1.5 yr(s) surely added to my anxiety. The fact that you...
