    Cleveland Clinic Questions

Exactly this Thursday for surgery day. Just checked into our hotel (Tudor Arms, we switch to the Intercontinental post-surgery) and about to walk around the campus for the first time. Initial impression: MASSIVE! Thank you for the well wishes!

    Cleveland Clinic Questions

Wow, a mini for both replacements - that's awesome! I am 6 days out from surgery with Dr. Svensson at the Cleveland Clinic and I as of yet, do not know of anything beyond needing both replacements myself. My out-of-town (New Mexico) schedule with the pre-op stuff sounds the same. I agree with...

Flying home after valve surgery, anyone have any experiences to share or pointers?

I am traveling from New Mexico to the Cleveland Clinic for my aortic valve/aneurysm replacement here in a week +. I am thinking the flights back, (maybe 2-3 days after hospital release) with a layover in Dallas, could be a challenge. Any experience with this? Any care shown by the airlines...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

Ooohweeee' that is steep, great work!!! Just incredible that you are doing so well, real inspirational - so thank you for the posts! I have some great hiking options in town - some I can hit right from my front door (I live 100' from a national forest) - with the extra challenge of high...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

That is awesome! What is the mountain that you are 'owning'? Am 13 days out from surgery and hope to take on the mountains around me too. Great to see how well you are recovering!

    Self-monitoring INR from the start

Hi all, so looks like many use/like the Coaguchek XS. Anyone familiar with the newer Vantus (4 buttons, bluetooth) model? Is it advanced from the previous 2 button model?

    Cleveland Clinic Questions

I head to Cleveland in 30 days -- pending valve and ascending aorta replacements -- and whatever else the cath reveals. So far, the CC seems very well organized as I have ~15 appointments scheduled in the 3 days prior to surgery. I asked for Dr. Svensson and am thrilled to have him as my...

    Self-monitoring INR from the start

Continuing to learn a lot from you Chuck. So folks are advocating to buy the INR home testing kit prior to surgery - will dive into eBay and check into it. Also, can you give more details about the vitamin K (K2?) pills - maybe brand/strength? My wife calls my diet that of a 2 year (honestly...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

Beers and a new scooter - yeah, I think you surely have reason to celebrate!!! Really appreciate the details on the binge and the minimal effect on the INR. Was one thing I was concerned about. I can certainly go without the spinach (am purely a meat & potatoes guy) but, as a Mets fan, I will...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

Wishing you the best gpr100rs!!! Please keep us posted on your recovery. I'm two months behind you, traveling to the CC to get my surgery done by Dr. Svensson.

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

Am learning a lot. Wish it wasn't through you having to go thru these, ummm, 'ordeals'. Sounds like you are doing great and hoping your INR levels get back to good and stable soon.

U of M vs Clevland Clinic

Thanks Katherine for the report. Going to Dr. Svensson for my aortic valve/aneurysm replacement on June 10th.

After 13 years in the "waiting room", surgery date is set for June. Let me know if agree with my plans...

Great stuff, really helpful Tom in MO!!! Will take each of these bullets and put them into my readiness checklist. Have already called on a few of them like the INR (PT, PTT) testing and cardio rehab.

Appreciate that! Have not learned of details of surgery with respect to incision size or approach - just his recommendation to replace valve and ascending aorta. Yes, plan on leaving it to the Doc but figure I better to my research (and ask about the Inspiris Resilia valve too). Good guess on...

Had a bunch of time to figure this out. Am curious to hear your opinions of my plans. Am traveling 1600 miles to have surgery (aortic valve replacement/ascending aorta replacement) at the Cleveland Clinic with Dr. Lars Svensson. At age 52 and pretty active outdoors (ski patroller, mountain...

    Henrick Lundqvist Recovery

As a hockey fan, have been following Lundqvist's surgery/recovery closely. Only thing that I could figure out was he had the surgery you mention at the Cleveland Clinic. Have asked on his twitter page for more details but so far, so silent. Happy to see he is doing incredibly well, even if I...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

Pellicle - that chart from Sweden about the persistence of using important meds, post-stroke, is mind-blowing (or better yet 'heart-stopping'). Wish the doctor/presenter would have noted that instead of his nightmarish (ALL SURGICAL OPTIONS ARE BAD) presentation. Thanks for talking me down off...

Made it to the other side

Great to hear Unicusp! Dr. Svennson's team is reviewing my medical records now and, with severe AS, I think my time is near. Thank you for the report. Going to travel across the country for him and the CC. Your post makes me confident that is worth the effort. Wishing you the best with your...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

Pretty sobering data presented on that video but appreciate the 'no BS' perspective. Thanks for sharing.
