Need new medical alert bracelet, and imput on what needs to go on the emblem!

I have a medic alert bracelet that I engraved "Coumadin" on the back because I couldn't find one pre-engraved. I asked a paramedic what she made of it and she told that according to her that I would be allergic to Coumadin. I couldn't believe it. So I added "On", and AVR.

    I cant sleep!

I couldn't agree more with Jkm7. I too had that problem. I could constantly hear my mech. aortic valve ticking, right up to my throat. the ticking would get louder if my mouth was open. I found that sleeping on my back as opposed to my side was the quietest position. You're body is still...

    Nail Growth increase on Coumadin?

Is it just me? I have noticed that about a year and a half after starting to take Coumadin that my nails have needed trimming quite a bit more often. Didn't notice this right away but then it started to dawn on me. Anybody else notice this or am I going insane? lol.

How much Vitamin K do you consume?

I do not track the amount either. I eat broccoli, salad, asparagus, spinach every other day only because I love the taste and it has nutrients. My INR results have showed that these intakes keep me in my 2.0-3.0 range that is required.

Question about blood drop collection for INRatio or Coagucheck machines

To Bina To Bina While I've probably 10-12 tests done on my XS, I recently noticed a picture somewhere that looked like the person's finger had made contact with the strip (blood was smeared on the finger) as opposed to letting the drop fall on the strip. What do you do? Do you let it drop or...

    Are these approved in Canada?

Thanks Bina, and another thanks for suggesting going the income tax route for what SunLife won't cover, I was informed today that I can get a little over $300. or so back from my ac prescriptons. Strange that one poster said that sometimes they cover and other times not. Sunlife told me from...

Just Purchased CoaguChek XS Unit Need to Know What Accessories I need?

One piece of advice I could give you is that if you look at your finger tips, there are rings (which make up the fingerprint). I was having difficulty in drawing blood until someone (I think maybe here) told me to make sure the lancet is parallel to the ring formation. In other words, hold the...

    Valve choice and snow skiing

I k now this is a really old thread but I wanted to add a personal comment pertaining to wearing a helmet while skiing. I had OHS with mech. valve in jan/2011. I haven't skied since, not because of the OHS/coumadin but of other factors. I started wearing a helmet in about 2004,, years prior...

Now have my own Coagucheck XS

My third test compared to the clinic is not as close as the first two. I got a 2.3 at home with a 2.59 at the clinic. I ask those with experience, is this about the widest spread I can expect or do you suspect an erroneous result? Not speculating which is the correct result.

    Tissue v Metallic

Welcome Gary, I had AVR in January/11. I was 52 at the time. I went with mechanical, personal choice. I've read quite a few threads since then, about some mechanical and others tissue. Don't want to steer you one way or the other but from what I've read, those that went mechanical have not...

Now have my own Coagucheck XS

I was able to get another XS result today, two in a row, I'm getting the hang of it. My result was 2.8 and my clinic's blood draw result was 2.78. I'm honestly very pleased so far with the results I'm getting from my XS compared to the clinic's. I also learned today that my family doctor...

    MRI with mechanical valve?

As far as the 20 minute time, the total scan time was probably more like 15-17 mintues. There was some unit adjustemnts done between scans, you're also fitted with some headphones (to lower the noise) and so the tech can talk to you and you can respond (between scans) only. They will tell you...

    MRI with mechanical valve?

I had an MRI done on august 12-2011 at a brand new hospital with, I assume, was a state of the art unit. Don't put your life on the line with what I will post but this is what I think I recall the tech telling me. She said that she would only use tesla 3 limit on me because of my St-Jude...

Now have my own Coagucheck XS

Thanks for the finger "tip" njean, pun intended. For sure I was tensed up the first few times, worried in screwing up the process and wasting another $10.00. BTW, what guage are your Walmart lancets?

Now have my own Coagucheck XS

I met the trained pharmacist and got some first hand trainining this week. He told me that the 15 second interval can be a bit exagerated, maybe not 45 seconds but 20-23 seconds should be ok. Results may be slightly off but.... I think I was a bit tense with that time limit since the drop of...

Clarification on price for Coagucheck XS

Would just like to clarify that I paid $498.99 for my unit and not $459.99 like I had previously stated in an other thread. The pharmacy had quoted the old unit, the S, not the XS. This thread can be closed if you wish. I would have posted this in the relevant thread but it's closed.

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I noticed that I feel cooler than before. I heat with wood and when the house was at 24-25c this winter, I did not find it overly hot but did prior to surgery. Also, with the recent heat wave, I did not feel really hot nor do I sweat nowhere as much as before. I was at a wedding with full...

Now have my own Coagucheck XS

On the bottom of the box flap there's a small blue circle with "21G, 0.8 mm" in it. I guess that means 21 guage?
