More gym goodness - 8 week update

Hit 150 on the bench press today. Gotta remember to try those 1-arm dumbbell presses. Got 2 pull ups. Gotta start working those multiple times a week. The next hurdle is bar dips.

    Low INR

They probably waited a few days before starting the coumadin so you haven't been on it that long. Mine took a while to come up and I took the shots also. Remember that the Lovenox shots don't effect your INR. They just thin your blood until the number is right. Coumadin is a slow acting drug so...

2-weeks post op with high INR

I'd bet my money on the 6.1 number being a mistake. Going from 1.8 to 6.1 in 6 days just seems like a big jump unless you are a very small person. It took me that long to get from 1.4 to 2.1 after leaving the hospital.

More gym goodness - 8 week update

I've got my bench press to 135 at 11 weeks. I was going to go for 150 this morning but didn't quite feel that I was ready yet. I also got my first full chin up (wide grip) with no pain or problem so I think I will start working those in on back day.

How Warfarin works - good read

Somehow I think I'm far more likely to accidently have to many drinks than I am to accidently have to much spinach. Looking forward to your findings and thanks for doing the research.

    Coumadin and "Romance" Woman's POV

Brittainy, Surprised nobody responded to this. I would look at your blood pressure meds before the coumadin. I think that causes more problems than coumadin. There are lots of choices and it's pretty easy to try different ones. Gary

    Rehab Secret

I learned this from a dancer years ago. I was talking about getting out of breath in a Karate class. She told told me I was holding my breath while trying to remember the moves I was learning. She was right.

    Weightlifting

Everything I've been told has to do with blood pressure going up while lifting. Non of my docs said anything about clots. I did ask my surgeon if now that that I have the root graft if I need to worry about some other part of the aorta becoming the weak link. He said no. So at this point I...

3 weeks today - all is good. curious about popping rib (?) noises when moving

I got quite a bit of that around week 5 I think. It's all gone now at 8 weeks. It doesn't hurt but it gets your attention.

    First day back at work!

Day number 3 back to work for me. Today is my first day trying my whole normal routine of up at 4:30am, head to the gym then work until 6:00pm. We'll see if I make it. It does feel good to be back at work. Gary

    Two questions about mechanical valves

You should see no changes at all with airport security. The lines will still be long and slow. The TSA people will still be rude.

One thing I've yet to do....

I never had so many people ask me about having a bowel movement in my life. A lot of the pain meds will cause backup. And as long as we already have to much information out there. Once you break that seal, look out.

    Day 5 update

Sleeping at home is just so much better. Naps are good to. I never took them before the surgery. Today was my first day back at work. I took a little nap right at my desk. Not sure how long it was until I caught myself.

GymGuy went back to gym - Week 6

Now we're talking. I got back to the gym about 2 weeks ago. Been doing about 45 minutes of cardio and the hitting light weights. I think I mentioned in another post that I started working just legs. Now I'm basically doing everything but chest. I like to work core as much as I can and I have...

TSA patdown because of chest wires

The TSA people aren't so bright. recently I had a full body scan. It picked up 2 screws in my right knee from an ACL reconstruction 20 years ago. I was wearing shorts so my knee was uncovered. The guy still grabed the wand and went over my knee. Then he looked like he felt kind of stupid.

    First time poster!

Fibe, So glad to hear about another succesfull surgery. Yes your breathing pain is normal. Probably more ribs than lung. In a couple of days you should start feeling daily improvements. You are now on what we refer to as "the other side" nothing to worry about but healing and getting better. Gary

    clfhangr is recovering

I was just thinking the same thing as JKM about your little guy hanging on your shoulder. He's gotta be the best thing there is to help your recovery. But go slow now. Rest a lot. Take naps. In a few weeks you'll start noticing how much better you feel each morning.

    Already 4 weeks between tests

So here's why I love Kaiser. I sent my coumadin guy an email saying I would like to test in 2 weeks. Within 10 minutes I got an email back telling me no problem I can test any time I think I need to. Just walk in and request. But he thinks I would be OK with 4 weeks. So I will go back in 2 weeks...
