Rob, I am on my first mechanical but I have a question. What do you mean by the narrowing of the valve? Is it scar tissue or some other obstruction? I have not heard of this complication and I do not think many of by co-clickers have either. Dick

Anyone ever regret the type of valve they chose?

I have a mechanical and do not regret it at all. I damn sure don't want to go through that surgery again and with any tissue valve, I would dread that prospect each and every day of my life. Coumadin is no big deal with me. I just finished adding on to my house so it is not slowing me down...

Tom, I have a mechanical and a graft installed in May 2000. I fly to Europe and South America on a regular basis. I have had no problems.

Allodwick Have you seen or used an "S" and if so, what is your take on it? Dick

    Unapproved Valves.......

That brings up an interesting point. In Europe and for that matter in the US, how do these valves end up in people. Do they implant themselves? Nope. It is the medical community that installs them. Without their cooperation, I do not believe there would even be medical new technology...

    Unapproved Valves.......

Gina, I believe the Coaguchek is just not approved for individual use. I believe it is approved for Dr.'s just not us mere mortals. Marty may be able to shed some light on same. I am not sure if you are talking about the "S" or the standard model. My Cardiologist now uses the "S".

    Unapproved Valves.......

Billy, I agree with you regarding Europe being the proving ground. Remember Elisabeth's below posts. According to her, three children in Vienna received a SynerGraft valve and two of the three died. Those are some odds. Best of luck to you and your efforts. Quote Hi! I am Elisabeth from...

    FDA approval, SJM 'Regent' valve

Gina, I agree with you. Some of the information I read, given as advice amounts to scary and people should read and accept it as people's individual opinions not medical advice, especially in the choice of valves. Any new product has its problems and these are rarely mentioned by the...

    Coagucheck

Marty was a big help. I travel and spend much time overseas so I bought my "S" in the UK and brought it back to the states. I did not even try to claim it on insurance. Mine came with a viedeo and very exact and specific instructions. My problem was never figuring out to use the machine...

    My CoaguChek 'S'

I brought an "S" back from London last year and convinced my Cardiologist here in the states to let me self test. He agreed and it has worked out well. After he saw how simple and accurate it was, he bought one for his office. I don't think he wanted one of his patients having better medical...

    Frequency of Tests?

Marty, I read your post about the "S". My Cardiologist recently bought an "S" identical to mine. In the US, is Roche only selling the "S" to Doctors and not individuals? That does not make much sense.

    coaguchek

Coagucheks Coagucheks Roche told me that Coagucheks should be available to the public in the U.S. towards the end of Feb. 2002. Below is their quote taken from some correspondence between Roche amd myself. ..."come the end of February we will have a new program up and running for people who...

    Who's Watching Cholesterol?

My wife reminded me that my c level of 220 might have something to do with me eating about 100 lbs of mixed nuts that are around the house ovber the holiday season. Andy and I are both on Toprol and Coumadin (and now Zocor) I am also on Altace. Rob, what beta blocker are you taking??

    Who's Watching Cholesterol?

cholesterol on the rise cholesterol on the rise Before my surgery in May 2000, my cholesterol was never over 150. It has been slowly on the rise since. 6 months ago it was 216 and it is 222 now. I can't figure out why. I eat better than before and exercise about the same. Doc is...

Thanks, I would like the correct spelling when you have the time. It may help me/others to access information on the web on the valve/graft procedure I have not picked up on before.

Shaz, I am curious as to where you got the name "bentol procedure". Many on this board including myself have a graft and a valve but I have read about everything in print on this procedure and have never heard the term. I checked the internet where you generally get a zillion hits on the...
