Mechanical Valve or Tissue Valve ?

It's a thin line between educating and advocating for yourself and accepting that you are not a cardiac surgeon (not to mention team) with what, 20+ years of education, access to literature and experience. We all tread the line differently. I try to take out the emotional thoughts like being...

Yes, I am the new guy

Thanks folks, that helps...I will go arm if it works out and too bad for the potential down time, I will be getting plenty of that in the near future anyways with the OHS. I have my big meeting with the surgeon etc on Tuesday and I am starting to get nervous. This is all happening so fast...I...

    Beta blockers after valve surgery

I just got on a beta blocker pre surgery and have not noticed any real change. I am on the lowest dose. I have not noticed any palpitations since so that is good, other than that my BP seems to remain pretty low, even when perceived exertion is high.

Yes, I am the new guy

Hey Nelson, Go Jays indeed, we ain't gonna miss EE too much, right? Damn agents getting in the way! My issue seems a bit different than yours, I have a BAV with 'severe' regurgitation, which to my understanding puts me into the 'surgery now' basket. I understand there are other with less severe...

Yes, I am the new guy

Well another week down and closer to the operating theatre! Tomorrow I do the pre-angio teaching appointment whatever that is and then in 5 days the big pre surgery meeting with the whole team. Angio on the 23rd at this point. When I asked the nurse how soon after the angio it would be she said...

Yes, I am the new guy

Nevermind, I looked it up on the Google...I think this internet thing might catch on, you know? Been to the hospital a few times and it has occurred to me that this diagnosis and the related 'issues' can provide some great learnings. I can't help but be amazed by the staff that dedicate their...

    Request - Forum Languange

I happen to be of the opinion that all words are awesome (though I was in the Army and the Carnival so maybe I'm not representative)! That said, why would anyone want to upset someone else? Especially in this place, designed to help others. Like I tell my 7 y/o, it's all about context and...

    Life Insurance disclosure?

Awesome, thanks for the feedback. I will be getting mine checked out by my lawyer cause I'm a squirrel like that. It would be super good to put this out of my mind before the knives and saws and such...I went from being convinced I had to disclose to thinking maybe not so much...interesting...

Yes, I am the new guy

I've had 3 chest X-rays over the course of the last 2 months or so, one confirming pneumonia, one confirming its successful treatment and one today. I didn't ask specifically about that but I'm going back on the 28th so I'll ask. Thanks. They just gave me lasik (sp?) to fill today so we will see...

Yes, I am the new guy

Pretty rough day today...woke up at about 4 with a "bubbling" and coughing feeling with every breath. Not sure what that is but it keeps me up and freaks me out a bit. It started around the pneumonia and I always associated it together, now not so sure. It went away for a few days once I got on...

    Aortic valve repair

Hey there, I am 41 and have the same decision. My surgeon said he wants a CT scan first, because it will determine which repair procedure he will choose. I have anxiety about the potential for 2 surgeries as well, but to my mind, repairing the valve seems the better option if available. And who...

    Life Insurance disclosure?

Hey guys, Been poking around since discovering I have BAV which requires OHS fairly soon. One topic is my insurance policy. I read through it and talked to my lawyer but still have no clear answer to my duties to report this issue to them. Anyone have any experience on this? I'm in Canada and...

Wow dick, that's crazy...is your issue pretty similar to mine? They have said the chamber is already enlarged a bit, so I guess it's been leaky leaky for a while. Thank baby Jesus for modern science eh? And thank Sir John A McDonald for Canada...no bills coming to this guy right here!

Yes, I am the new guy

soooo....is double posting a no-no here too? I hope an admin doesn't come sweeping in with vengeful wrath! I have not had the detailed meeting with the Surgeon yet as he has to jet to Cancun or wherever Surgeons go for the holiday season. I will have that meeting on January 10th. I have been...

Yes, I am the new guy

Thanks for the thoughts folks, I'm trying to get up to speed on all this. 3 months ago I was just suffering from middle age dom. I am told there is no stenosis which seems good. I have no idea how to even find out how active of a surgical center I am in, though being in Winnipeg logically infers...
