Dental work after surgery. Totally confused and then WOW!

Good Morning (here anyway), FWIW I had dental work after around 8 months (a clean)and had amoxicillin around 1 hr pre opp. I ran this past my cardiologist who said there are no guideline re: wait time (that he is aware of anyway). I guess the reason for the conflicting answers is simply...

    Still leaky :(

Thank you for all of your input, pellicle . It has certainly helped to put my mind at ease. Was picked up in my 12 month routine echo. No symptoms (that I'm aware of anyway). Everything else looked/sounded good.

    Still leaky :(

Cheers, thanks pellicle, the other links have showed up now. Hmm, a couple I haven't read yet so I'll read shortly. Yeah the whole ''it's uncommon'' bit is what worries me the most. Yeah I'll do my best

    Still leaky :(

Hi pellicle. Yeah, so basically from what I understand the leak is where the valve is (should be) stitched. From what I have read it seems to occur if the stitching hasn't held or sometimes post opp when the swelling goes down it can create small 'gaps'' between the valve ring and the root...

    Still leaky :(

Thanks DachsieMom. Yeah, it sucks. I'd assume if it was too bad my cardio would be looking into it a lot sooner but it's still annoying. My valve is a CardiaMed but I can't find much on it.

    Still leaky :(

Hello, So I had my 12 month Echo & check up with my cardio yesterday and apparently I have a 'leak' from around the edge of the valve (Paravalvular leak I think it's called). He said that my scan showed that the swelling and size of my heart had gone down since my operation however there was a...

    Heart flutters

Are you pre or post opp? I noticed I had them quite frequently in the first 8-10 months post opp. I think they were more noticable due to the mechanical valve. PVC's theyre called and harmless. (If thats what they are of course)

Reducing Coumadin prior to drinking alcohol?

Ah, never mind. I see that you've already commented on it. But I personally wouldn't adjust my coumadin 'just in case' something happens, and only adjust when required. I mean, without knowing your tolerance, you could reduce your coumadin and then the alcohol has no effect, leading to your INR...

Reducing Coumadin prior to drinking alcohol?

Hi VWalk, I recently did a bit of a study on the effect of my INR with alcohol. It was fun :). Anyway, I measured my INR at various intervals before and after consuming alcohol and the biggest increase I had was .3 the morning after 5.2 standard drinks. (Roughly 3.5 full strength beers)...

Want a Tattoo, Consulted with my Cardiologist---Not sure what to do now

Hello. When I asked my cardiologist his exact words were "There are no real guidelines in this but to be safe I recommend a dose of antibiotics before and after. I have had patients get tattoos before on blood thinners however". My tattoo artist basically said what you said above - shorter...

What did afib feel like to you?

For me a combination of fast, firm heart beets mixed with a butterfly feeling. Not painful but after awhile it would take my breath away. When I had an episode in hospital my heart rate would go up and down between 90-160bpm.

    Heartbeat visible under skin

FWIW - I have a visible pulse in my neck and can see my chest pulse in time with my heart beat. I can't 'feel' the beat however, so to speak. I wouldn't imagine it is anything to worry about, but I'm also not a doctor :).

Alcohol & INR - Just for Fun

Thank you! Yeah I was thinking about pushing it a bit further with my next test and go for maybe 6 or 7 drinks , you know, just for scientific reasons :), but I need to restock strips first. Seriously though, as you said you would never do this without being able to self test but I'm glad I...

Can You Get a Tattoo While on Blood Thinners?

Oh, and regarding infection - If you are going to a reputable artist who practices good hygiene, sterilises their equipment etc. and you also follow correct aftercare procedures then I wouldn't see an issue.

Alcohol & INR - Just for Fun

Greetings. So, over the past 3 weeks I have had a desire to check the effects of my INR and Alcohol consumption. It wasn't the most scientific of tests, but was brought on by me wanting to know how Alcohol I could tolerate in one sitting. I don't drink everyday, but often feel like having a...

    Sports after aortic valve replacment

Hello! * Personally, I started playing golf again after 9 weeks (only 9 holes). Was quite sore after however no damage done, just learning to reuse muscles. After around 3.5 months I could play without being sore. (That said, from time to time I do still have some pain from my sternal wires) * I...
