I have my first real cold since my AVR!

Coricidin and Mucinex will be your best friends. Unfortunately, most people w/ heart related issues are told to stay away from deongestants due to their blood pressure raising side-effects. Good luck and get well!

    Hereditary BAV??

I'm the only one in my family that had a BAV. We had each of our boys get checked at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHoP), and they both were given clean bills of health (thank god!). Seems like sometimes it can be hereditary, and other times it can just be a fluke occurence. But if a...

    White Asparagus vs Green Asparagus

Just wondering if anyone knows if there's a vitamin K difference between white and green asparagus. I've tried to look on-line, but haven't found anything yet. Thanks!

Name and Rate Your Beta Blocker(s)

I've been taking 25 mg of Atenolol since they diagnosed my bicuspid valve about 10 years ago. I take it every morning, never had any side-effects from it.

    Sensitive subject.....

If some researchers were able to find foods or items that grow in nature that actually raise a persons INR, they could become very rich and have a lot of happy mechanical valvers. Imagine being able to eat some foods that raised your INR and you didn't need to take warfarin anymore.

    INR ups & downs

I'm surprised they would suggest that much since the RDA for an adult male is about 120mg/day and about 90 mg/ day for an adult female.

    INR ups & downs

My INR had been consistent for the past few months or so, always hovering around the 3.0 range with my INRatio 2. Then yesterday I tested and it was a 4.7. I re-tested with another finger and it was a little lower (that's probably attributed to the .4 variance the machine can have.). My...

    Funny Heart beats

Every once in awhile since my surgery, I'll get a skipped beat, or a little flutter sensation and it would scare the hell out of me. I would wind up calling my cardiologists office and get all worked up over it. Testing showed there's nothing wrong, and my cardiologist said that what's...

How long before you returmed to work fulltime?

I was 41 at the time of my AVR and in decent shape. I started doing re-hab at 8 weeks. Went back to work part time at 10 weeks (sitting and doing design work). Back at work full time at 12 weeks. Good luck!

    9 month follow-up.

I had a 9 month check-up with my cardiologist this morning and he's happy with where I'm at and how I'm feeling. He even said that we can try to eliminate the Lisinopril, which is great, seeing as I've developed the "Lisinopril cough". As long as my b.p. doesn't creep up after I stop taking...

    Having babies?!

We did genetic counseling and since there was no history in my family of heart abnormailities, the doctors weren't too concerned about it being passed along to my kids, though there is still a chance. That didn't stop us from having our two kids however. The doctors recomended that we had them...
