    Low INR

So apparently the combination of being on Levaquin and drinking a lot of water has caused my INR to drop a lot. On Wednesday my INR was 3.2 and then it was 2.1, 1.9 and today it was 2.0. My cardiologist initially was trying to get me at the low end of my range of 2.5 to help deal with some...

    Levofloxacin and warfarin

Well it looks like I may have a kidney stone or an infection. Had a kidney stone a few weeks after my heart surgery almost 3 years ago. My urologist appointment isn't until Monday, but I went to a walk in clinic since I started to get a fever. The doctor prescribed 500 mg of Levofloxacin for...

Time of day to take Warfarin?

As the others have said, I don't think when you take it is important, but it's more about when it's convenient for you to take it. I take mine at 7:45 pm right after we put the kids to bed. I even have a daily alarm on my phone that goes off at 8 pm to remind me in case I somehow forgot my meds.

Best Alcoholic Drink When on Warfarin? What Has Least INR Effect?i

Make sure if you have mixed drinks, like a vodka with cranberry, know if any of the juices could mess with your meds. Aside from that, use your head and drink up!

what's the longest you can be without Coumadin?

Reducing your Coumadin or stopping it entirely probably will not have any effect on you getting rid of some bruises quicker. Once a bruise is formed, the discoloration eventually goes away as the body absorbs the blood. Seems kind of risky to me, but good luck.

Vit K and Non-American based foods???

I use the USDA database as well, especially when I'm having a food for a first time, just so I can gauge how much vitamin K it may have. I keep a link to it on my cell phone, it comes in real handy if you want to look something up while in a restaurant.

    Warfarin and Orange Juice

I've never heard of orange juice affecting INR levels. From my personal experience, OJ has no effect on my INR. Sometimes I'll go weeks without having a glass and then other times I'll have 1-2 glasses a day for a few days, No impact on my INR. Perhaps just from being sick, your metabolism...

Coumadin dosages - spread out increases or do all in one day?

I can't speak for others, but my cardiologist's office does a very good job at managing my warfarin. I home test and call my numbers into Alere. Sometime that same day my cardiologist's office will call me and let me know if I need to make any adjustments to my daily dose. Whether I speak...

Feeling "pushed" into surgery too soon?

Hi Maverick and welcome! I was also asymptomatic when my doctors told me at my annual check-up in the late Fall of 2011 it was finally time to have my valve replaced. I was shocked, because I felt no different from when they discovered my bicuspid valve 10 years ago! They told me they wanted to...

Splitting Coumadin tablets - NO NO or OK????

My wife works for a large Pharma company , and had this info regarding the score lines on pills. The score line can be used to split a pill for the ease of swallowing it, or it can be used to provide two equal (within reason) half doses provided that the product insert specifically states this...

post surgical complications and feelings (some may find images disturbing)

Glad your appointment went well! Just wondering if there is any concern since you will be on anti-biotics for so long, that you will will build up a resistance to anti-biotics for any future issues? Or that perhaps you would need an additional boost for pre-medicating before dental work?

    Thin Hair problem.

Not sure if this is the right spot or not, but I'll give this a shot. This is something that has been frustrating to me since I've been on warfarin. I have thin hair up top, and keep it cut short because that's how it looks the best. Especially in the summertime (probably from sweating and...

    Husband's surgery is tomorrow

Hi Dee, Just a thought, if he's going to be walking a lot inside the house, get a Pedometer so he can keep track of how many steps he takes and then his goal should be to increase that every day. I know for me, my appetite was lousy for about a week after I got home. Get some supplement...

InRatio 2 strip rrecall - important

I'm just curious why so many people are against the "supervised" self-testing. It literally takes 3 minutes to call in your results and then they forward the info to your cardiologist. If I elect to have a lab draw done that week, Alere usually calls and leaves a message that I need to call in...

BE...which bacterial infections are the cause?

Anne- For normal dental cleanings, fillings, even root canals, I take 2000 mg of Amoxicillin 1 hour prior to my appointment. My cardio re-fills my prescription, but my dentist always asks me if I need a new one. Make your dentist aware that you have a heart condition and should be...

accuracy, standards and INR meter design

I have a PDF that Alere sent me where it references the 30% variance that the W.H.O. allows. I can't post it here, but if someone would like to post it for me, shoot me a p.m. with your e-mail and I can forward it to you.
