    Dosing thoughts?

Ok, some I'm on Augmentin for the next 9 days ( I started it on 4/6 ) until this diverticulitis clears up, and I let my cardiologist know (they technically monitor my INR). I usually take 4.5 mgs everyday except Sunday is 6 mgs. My INR have been the following: 4/3- 2.0 home test 4/4-...

    Diverticulitis and Coumadin.

I usually self test once a week, but I'll be checking every 2-3 days for the time being. Good thing I just had a re-supply order arrive while I was in the hospital!

    Shopping for heart valves

I was 40 when I was advised to do have the surgery and I initially picked a tissue valve. I realized that I may need another 2 re-dos in my lifetime, but I just didn't want to be on warfarin, truth be told it scared me. My surgeon said it was my choice and he would support my decision...

    Diverticulitis and Coumadin.

Yup, on Augmentin for 11 days and a "low soluble diet" for 2 weeks. Low soluble diet just means less than 13 grams of fiber per day, this gives the insides a chance to relax and heal. BUT, I also can't have any raw veggies or raw fruits or any cooked veggies that have thick skins, seeds, or...

    Diverticulitis and Coumadin.

Well, turns out the old saying "Time heals all wounds" applies here. The bleeding resolved itself so they didn't need to come up with a plan. Thankfully I'm being discharged this afternoon. It would have been interesting to see what they would have tried, but I'm also glad it's over with.

    Diverticulitis and Coumadin.

So I've been in the hospital since Sunday with my first bout of diverticulitis and everything was going smoothly until we noticed some blood in my b.m. For most people, no big deal since bleeding can be a common side-effect, not so with someone on warfarin. Doctor is a little stumped on how...

Wow! Didn't realize levels can change so fast

Hi, Keep in mind that all home meters are allowed a certain percentage of variance. I can't remember what that percentage is but I remember how shocked I was at how high it was. My Alere meter was always at the upper end of the tolerance and was all over the place compared to a veinous...

    Pro Biotics and warfarin

Does anyone know if there are any issues with taking warfarin and Pro Biotics at the same time? I've been having some stomach issues the last few days, and my wife suggested taking some of her pro Biotics. They are a good brand and have to stay refrigerated. I looked on line and didn't see...

Can I drink a damn beer?

I'm just an occasional drinker, and whenever I have a beer or two there's no change in my INR that I've noticed. ~Marc

Who will be there with you?

My wife and my mom were waiting the whole time in the waiting room. My kids were too young to be there, otherwise they probably would have wanted to be there as well.

Bracelet or necklace? Can't seem to keep either?????

I have two bracelets from Medic Alert. One is a titanium stretch band, very stylish, and I wear it whenever I leave the house. The other is a cheaper, velcro type band, that I wear when doing really messy work around the house. Never had any problems with either of them and I'm not...

    MRI question

So my wife is having an MRI to figure out what's wrong with her knee and it got me thinking what would I have to have done since I have a mechanical valve. CAT scan? are there MRIs that are safe for us mechanical valves? If anyone's been in that situation before, I would love to hear your...

Does everyone here go through A service?

I wouldn't get too concerned about having to call in your results. I used to call in to Alere with my results and it literally was just a 90 second phone call, it's not that big of a hassel to do. Now that I use a Coaguchek, I enter my result on-line and it's an even faster process.

Does insurance generally cover home testing?

My insurance covered the cost of my InRatio 2 and now my Coaguchek ( I just recently switched meters). I don't actually own the machine, but rent it. I call in or submit my results via the web once per week through the Coaguchek service. It's really no big deal having to call in your...

    Low INR

Sorry, my initial post was a little scatterbrained....being sick and worrying about my INR were a nasty little 1, 2 punch (not to mention my two little boys driving my nuts ) :Face-Raspberry: My usually dose is M-W-F @ 4.5 mg and the rest of the week is A 6 mgs. This seems to have kept me in...
