    Staying the Course -- 09/08/2019

Today is Superbob’s surgery. According to his son, he was prepped at 6am so it’s ongoing now. Everyone hold a good thought that he stays the course and is back with us soon.

    Going in for #3

Hello, Bradley! I remember you! I was keen to undergo the Ross, but eventually settled for straightforward avr in 2005. I took particular interest in how members who had a history of the Ross fared, and you were one. Good luck going forward, and best wishes for a easy, uncomplicated surgery. Mary

To get the thread back on track

@pellicle It appears that the original tawdry shirt pictures (circa 2006) are long gone, but I have copied Tobagotwo’s description of them “ . . . each garishly different and all grotesquely unfashionable, worn straight through the recovery as silk has excellent temperature leveling qualities...

    Tissue Vs Mechanical

The thread starter posed a “what if” question so all replies are speculative. My reply, if TAVR becomes a viable option but can only be used with tissue valves, then the number of mechanical valves would most likely be reduced.

    Tissue Vs Mechanical

The question posed didn’t ask about the pros and cons of TAVR, it asked if TAVR would affect future valve choices.

    BDMc has passed

Old time valve replacement members will be saddened to learn that Brian McCarter, BDMc, has died unexpectedly from a yet to be determined heart issue. Brian bore his many heart surgeries with grace and acceptance and was always there to support and help. May he Rest In Peace.

I’m glad that Hurricane Dorian is no longer a worry, Superbob, and I wish that you were on the other side of your surgery and putting that new recliner to good use. We’re in the midst of a late season heat wave. Quite a contrast to the chilly temperatures we woke up to in northern WI last week...

    Family planning

@Protimenow , it’s ok if you don’t understand the value in knowing if Astro's children might have a BAV. They’ve His children. He doesn’t need to “enlighten “ you. Good grief.

It is time... and hello again.

I’d try to have the surgery in spring if I was having it performed in the States. Flu season will be about over so hospitals are less busy plus the weather is generally more conducive to walking . . . not too hot, not too cold!

    Help please

It is time... and hello again.

Glad to see you back with us, @themalteser, but I do wish your return was not tied to your now needing surgery. Best wishes going forward. Mary

I bet you are feeling the strain, Superbob. I hope Mother Nature calms down soon. We’re in Wisconsin and enjoying the cooler temperatures and drier air that vacationing 725 miles north brings. Wishing all Stay the Coursers a good week.

I think the replies were meant to be reassuring and not judgmental, but I agree with Agian, your question was reasonable.

TAVR/TAVI: Recall of SAPIEN 3 Ultra Delivery System Due to Burst Balloons During Surgery

So for clarification, how many extra cardiologist visits do you think are required from the time the tissue valve degradation is recognized until new replacement? I have been told that once the valve starts to fail, it goes fairly quickly so there’s not a great deal of time passage for an...
