How did you discover your valve issue?

I don't get it either. I understand the fear of resistant bacteria but if it's up to me I will take the chance on possibly contributing to that issue in order to make it less likely that I'll have a problem. I haven't had an issue getting them prescribed for dental procedures.

Is it okay to hit a boxing bag as part of gym training

Well clearly that statement requires proof. Speaking of the former not the latter....

Do you take the full echocardiogram test with imaging, treadmill?

I had that one before it also, I believe it's called a nuclear stress test? I had that back before I had my surgery but I prefer the treadmill on that I had a year and a half ago. I also had a cardiac cath before the surgery and everything came back clear so I was happy about that of course. My...

Do you take the full echocardiogram test with imaging, treadmill?

The last echo I had was a stress test echo and I've never had a bypass or stent or any signs of stenosis. I have a BAV and I had an ascending aortic aneurysm until 2015 when I had it replaced with a graft. I was glad to get it because apparently you get a better indication of what's going on...

    Sparing the Aortic Root

If you don't mind me asking who is the surgeon? If you don't want to share the information I understand and I'm not questioning his abilities I was just curious. Obviously he has more knowledge about it than we do out here but I guess when you come out here we're all you got to pick...

    Sparing the Aortic Root

I'm not sure but I believe having a BAV is considered a connective tissue disorder especially if you have an aneurysm. Also there is a lot of thought now that the aneurysm is caused more by the genes that gave you the BAV rather than the hemodynamics

    Sparing the Aortic Root

It is true that we are not cars but some analogies do hold true to an extent. I often wondered around the time of my surgery about the whole removing the car and every buttons and reattaching them. I know that it's not like a illustration of a surgery where everything's nice and neat, I'm sure...

    Sparing the Aortic Root

Hey it's funny you said that. When I had a console with my surgeon prior to surgery I told him I wanted him to do everything that he thought might need done down the road while he had the wheels off..... He seemed to get a chuckle out of that

    Sparing the Aortic Root

Just to add something I didn't include I could understand how it makes the surgery a little more simple but that's the reason why you have a high quality surgeon. I mean all else being equal the shorter and less complicated the surgery the better but if you have an ascending aneurysm I would...

    Sparing the Aortic Root

As pretty much everyone out here I'm not a medical expert but this doesn't sound right to me. If you're getting a brand new mechanical valve and having your aneurysm replaced with a graph I have no idea why they're root when it be replaced along with it? Six years ago I had my barely leaking BAV...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

I think it has a bit of a mystery what might trigger them for many of us. I was told when I was younger to avoid chocolate, but I don't see any connection between it and having a migraine aura these days. I had two times in the past couple of years where I had that weird feeling in my right leg...

Migraine aura anyone? Or does the cheese stand alone?

Sorry to hear about the potentiality of a stroke. I used to occasionally get slurred speech and actual numbness in a hand or my tongue when I got a full-blown migraine but after my heart surgery I don't really get that anymore I just get the auras. Whereas I used to get a full-blown migraine...

    Why both Warfarin AND aspirin?

That's how I started taking it

    Why both Warfarin AND aspirin?

I'm not on warfarin but I've been taking an 81 mg aspirin in the morning and one at night for a few years now. It seems to be one of those things that the doctor and cardiologist are kind of like "I don't think you need it but it probably won't hurt...." Like a lot of things in the medical or...

this is of course why I go right ahead and ignore Nutritionists

It's a difficult subject. The advice seems to change regularly, I'm old enough to remember when eggs would kill you if you ate them regularly and then they went to being considered very nutritious, I would imagine if your cholesterol and triglycerides are under control and occasional egg won't...

this is of course why I go right ahead and ignore Nutritionists

Yeah I would imagine it's all dependent on what kind of cereal and milk I guess. I mean the kids bowl of sugar cereal is probably not the best comparison....

    promising

Yeah interestingly, or not, maybe the correct word is ironically another so-called conservative radio talk show host I believe from the Southern United States died from COVID-19. He was anti-vax and compared the US government to Nazi Germany in one of his last tweets if not his last........

    COVID

Yeah that's unfortunate but as I'm sure you know that's the way it often works with science especially regarding new things. They're looking for evidence and changing their opinions when the evidence presents a reason to. Unfortunately a lot of people who are looking to poke flaws in the science...

    COVID

Yeah well I'm due for a colonoscopy, this will be my first one so maybe they'll light some candles, and I did put it off partly because of the pandemic but if I'm being honest it's not really high on my list of things I want to do...... The flip side is without a lockdown It's safe to assume...
