    Scar

I am also 12 months out. My scar was big and red, but seems to be flattening out on about 1/3rd of it and that part is alot less red. I kept it out of the sun and did not put anything on it. Let us know if you go see a doc and what they think. I have appointment in March and will see what doc...

Everything you need to know for Valve Selection?

Came across this article today. Looks to be dated 2009, so may have been on list before. http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/119/7/1034.full#T1

    New in ChicagoLand Surgery 10/22

Another Chicagoland customer here. I had mine done 1 year ago at Elmhurst Hospital by Dr Davalle. Buy the green bananas. If you get too stessed out as the surgery approaches, ask your docotor for a few xanax. Also, look around the forum for things to have ready at your house when you get home...

Cardiac Therapy a waste of time.

I was in good shape before surgery and was not able to get into the cardia program here until week 9 as they were full. By that time I was already going to local work out facility and walking and biking. They told me on the first day I was ahead of most who were graduating from the program. I...

    Phlegm medication issue?

So far the cough has been gone for the last week and I have been doing great. Will be seeing doc soon anyways and will mention it, but do not feel it is out of hand at this point. Thanks for caring.

    Phlegm medication issue?

Went to see cardiologist yesterday. I mentioned I had a cough that came with some phlegm. He said there was nothing involving the valve or the meds I was on that would cause it. He said if it bothered me any more, I should check with general doctor. I have had allergies in the past and my eyes...

    Phlegm medication issue?

Interesting. I too have the cough. Mechanical valve 9 months ago. On warfarin now. Stopped metroprolol 2 months ago due to dry cough. BP is normal now so do not need it. I see Cardiologist on Tuesday this week and will ask and report back.

I was on 325 mg before AVR last year. After surgery when I was put on coumadin, he reduced me to the 81 mg.

    Fear of routine appointments

No I do not think you are going nuts. I have another routine appointment coming up in August and while all seems to be fine, I keep having the thought of the doc listening to the heart and saying something like "that does not sound right". I had AVR with mechanical valve about 9 months ago.

How rapidly did your aortic symptoms develop and worsen ?

I was aymptomatic. Doc heard a murmur about 2 years before and started watching it. I was riding bike alot with no issues, including 2-100 milers about 3 months before surgery. Doc had told me not to lift more than 50 pounds and I did notice I felt crappy for a bit after lifting anything heavy...

A 'New' Aortic valve. But which one?

I quess I will be the first to chime in. This is probably one of the hardest choices you will ever make. The best thing to do is research both options to the max. You can search these forums and find others who have asked and read the responces. In my case, at my age of 52 I choose the...

    Paperwork needed for flying......

I flew out of Chicago about 4 months after AVR and had no issues with security. This was 4 month ago. I have chest full of wires and did not set anything off. I only carry the card from valve maker. Flew back from Vegas with no isssues. Except a little lighter in the wallet.

No teeth cleaning or elective dental procedures for a year after surgery??

I had cleaning at about 5 months and partial crown at 6 months. Just took the 1 dose an hour before each procedure. Cardio said it was ok.

    Rehab - Do or Not?

I had my AVR end of Oct last year and started rehab mid December. Before surgery I had been working out biking or on other stuff 6 times a week. Two weeks after surgery I was going to local indoor workout place and walking the track and doing some light stationary biking. I had a heart monitor...

    Heartbeat

Been 7 months for me and not sure I am used to the sound yet. I still get some PVC's and when I go to bed I can hear the extra heart beats.

    Woops!

Not sure, but maybe research Aloe Vera. I know we had a plant and would pull off leaves and squeeze out the gel and put it on bad burns. I think they also sell the product at drug stores.

    Lipitor and plaque

I have been on Lipitor for maybe 10 years now. Also on Zetia which is supposed to bring up the good stuff. I had AVR last year and the angiogram I had just before it showed only 1 artery at 35%, so no bypass needed while they were in there. I am 53 now. My numbers have been great. In my case I...

Why no driving for up to 6 weeks after surgery?

I hate to admit it, but I drove 1 week after surgery. My sons car broke down and I had to go get him. Was off pain meds. I knew to be extra careful so as to not need to do any quick actions. I survived, but it is a risk.

    Bump for bbuck

I had the same thing happen to me back in January about 9 weeks after my AVR surgery. In my case they said it was some kind of inflamation and they gave me steriods for a few days. Now almost 5 months later and no issues anymore. I think you can search pericardial window or pericardial effusion...
