    Time for a new cardiologist?

I am not familiar with your country's health care system. However, I believe that Pellicle said it best - your life DOES depend on it. I and several others on this board have had occasion to change cardiologists - usually for a lack of attention to details and/or a sense of urgency. Sure...

    Possible 3rd Valve Replacement

One advantage of the large well respected clinics is that they seem to have more experience with complex, challenging cases. My experience with CC was that they were able to manage the insurance issues with only my insurance info. This was for a pretty straightforward Medicare advantage case...

    Needing advice/support.

Well... Sounds like there is no question that the surgery is required - so no real decision to be made? If I have that right, then you look at potential outcomes based largely on past results in similar cases. Here is one relevant report that suggests that positive outcomes are highly likely...

    How to Choose

A 4.0cm aorta may or may not eventually reach 5.5. It's entirely possible that it will not. I usually don't venture into the mechanical discussions. There are several folks here who have that covered and have forgotten more than I know about mechanical valves. However... To add to Pellicle's...

Navigating Life with Bicuspid Aortic Valve: My Journey, Concerns, and Hope

Point of reference. Took me about 15 years to go from 4.7 to 4.9/5.0 and it was my stenotic BAV that triggered the surgery. I also experienced variation due to testing. Sometimes smaller than the previous test. I believe that the tech performing the test is the most significant variable. Per my...

    7 weeks post-surgery

I'm no Doctor...but my understanding is that 130/65 and hr of 60 is quite healthy. I second Pellicle's comments on medication. Without meds I have both hypertension and high cholesterol. Both conditions are partly due to heredity and partly due to being 30 - 40 lbs overweight. However, both...

    Fourth surgery anyone?

Gail, Had my one and only at age 71. It was nowhere near as complex as your situation. However, FWIW, 70+ seems doable if one is in decent shape otherwise and has the right team in place. I assume that you are considering a world class clinic/hospital and surgeon. One of the things I learned...

Hello!!! Happy to be here! Seeking Insight and Clarification

Sorry to go a little OT here. Chuck, sorry to hear about your mother's condition. My father in law suffered from Alzheimer's and eventually succumbed to complications from a fall. It's a very cruel disease. I wish you the best in dealing with the challenges.

37 yr old with BAV and Severe AR

Sam, I traveled from Central Florida to CC - Cleveland 3 years ago for my AV and AA surgery. I was able to send them digital copies of my recent echo and CT scan. Details are in this thread - starting at post #21...

    Update!

Sookygal, Perhaps your next scan will really tell the tale. 4.1 is not typically anywhere near the danger zone which seems to be at or greater than 5.0. And it seems highly likely that you are presently at 4.1 since you have the 2nd test to confirm. If you experience any growth in the size...

3 Weeks to go......... to Big Surgery

Quite a menu! The good news is that modern medical treatment has made tremendous strides in this area and those of us with these heart issues are the beneficiaries. There are no guarantees but the success rate is very high for these surgeries. It's an extended lease on life. Best wises for a...

Should I push to replace my mid ascending aorta?

My experience with CC in 2021: My AVA and AA both tested severe and my local Cardiologist recommended a consult with a surgeon. I waited six months and had the tests repeated to confirm the test results. They were confirmed. I contacted the office at CC - Cleveland of the surgeon that I was...

60YO woman with BAV and severe stenosis

I was mostly without symptoms but when my test results declined into severe - i.e. .9 on the aortic valve (and 5.0 on the aortic aneurysm), I got a second opinion with a second set of tests to confirm that the test results were accurate. They were confirmed and I made the appointment for the...
