Longest period known before aortic valve replacement needed

I always had some shortness of breath on exertion - climbing stairs or lifting and carrying something heavy, etc. However, I walked 3 miles a day at 3 mph without any symptoms. No other symptoms ever. Dr. recommended surgery as soon as I had 2 consecutive echos <1.0. I agreed because my aortic...

Longest period known before aortic valve replacement needed

Diagnosed in 2003 at age 53 with AVA of 1.8. By 2010 AVA was 1.1 - still moderate, but borderline. But then... from 2010 until 2019, AVA was 1.0-1.1. In 2020 AVA dropped to .97, in 2021 to .90. Surgery in 2021. Annual echo in a couple of months. HTH

    It's done, and I'm home!

Great progress to a difficult surgery. Seems like you were meant to be successful despite the obstacles. Kudos for your attitude and reactions - no playing victim for you. Best wishes for a steady and complete recovery.

    Medtronic Freestyle Root Bioprosthesis

Wendel, From a tissue valve guy who thinks that you might want to rethink things. The personal attacks are way out of line. Not how things work around here in my experience.

    Trifecta early failure

Thanks for the update. I am 3 years into an Inspiris Resilia with hopes that I might make it long enough to get to TVAR. Very interested in your experience. Thanks again.

All good info here. When I asked about having surgery performed to put it behind me, my cardio drew a graph illustrating the risk of surgery vs the risks of allowing the disease to progress beyond the initial phase of serious. Once you can see the metrics from your echo test, you will be able...

Surgery this week and still Terrified

And now you can say "So this is what it's like over here." Best wishes for a rapid and complete recovery.

    Exercise and aortic root dilation

tjay covered things well. Only other comment that I might add is that my understanding is that there is some margin of error in testing. So. a difference of <.2 may be insignificant or may not even be at all. Good job at being proactive. There are quite a few success stories on here and the...

    TAVR in the works

Welcome to the forum. Plenty of good info in the archives if you want to spend some time searching. Some of the most frequent advice is some variation of: 1) Seek out the very best Cardiologist and Surgeon that you can. I am guessing that Stanford is a great place to start. There is not much...

    TAVR vs Mini-AVR...My Delema

    TAVR vs Mini-AVR...My Delema

I had a mini with Inspiris Resilia as well as aortic aneurysm repair at age 71. Pretty fit for my age at time of surgery. I was in ICU for a little over 24 hours with some pain but nothing extraordinary, although I was on some pretty heavy meds. In step down unit for 3 days. Was walking around...

Metoprolol vision changes? Or is this something else? Graying out of vision in one eye only

Vision issues. Has anyone mentioned ocular migraines? If you do an image search, there are some examples of how they appear for some people. Just a thought, not a conclusion by any means.

    TAVR vs Mini-AVR...My Delema

I was 71 when I had a Mini at CC to replace my bicuspid AV and repair an ascending AA. I assume that you don't have an AA as you did not mention it and I believe that they need a little bit more room to repair that. Valve used for me was Inspiris Resilia. Three years in and so far, so good...

I was 71 and approx. 215 lbs. I was walking about 3 miles/day for years prior to surgery. I did just fine so far. YMMV

Henrik Lundquist (NHL star goalkeeper) story; Aortic valve, root and ascending aorta surgery

Tjay, Thanks for posting. We watched it the other night after you mentioned it. Since he went to CC, we recognized some of the shots of the clinic. As a sometimes casual hockey fan, I enjoyed that as well. One thing that stood out for me was the significant difference in his presurgery...
