    Post Surgery update

I'm now day 4 and still in ICU, hopefully will go the ward tomorrow. It's been a rough few days, surgeon made the call to put in a biological with aortic root enlargement once he got in there and after looking at haematolgist repot. Have had massive blood issues, with hemolysis, low platelets...

    Choosing valve for surgery #2

Thank you for your answers. I will certainly do the search you suggest. Good to hear that warfarin hasn't been a big deal for you. I see that more and more as I look around here.

    Choosing valve for surgery #2

A further update... I have seen my haematologist, and he has confirmed that despite the presence of thrombocytopenia and my tendency towards bleeding, he doesn't believe that warfarin would be a problem for me. So I am now 7 days away from surgery, and still haven't made a firm decision... So...

    Choosing valve for surgery #2

An update on what's happening...saw the surgeon yesterday, and now have a date, at last! 23rd March is my big day. Looks like I will have to have the aortic root enlarged to be able to put a large enough valve in. Will never be a candidate for TAVR, due to my anatomy, so it is now a definite...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

It has been a long merry-go-round between cardiologist and surgeon and tests to determine what is the best procedure. Finally got a date yesterday, 23rd March will be the big day. I'm leaning mechanical, but because of bleeding issues, they are pushing to biological. Next step is to see the...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

First time round I had my cath just a couple of days pre surgery. Don't recall it being any big deal, apart from the fact that I wasn't given any sedation at all, and found it quite painful. A bit of bruising but no tenderness. This time round, my cath was done weeks in advance of my surgery...

I've crossed the line into severe and need to make a decision

It is such a tough decision isn't it? Well, I know I'm surely having a hard time making it. So glad that you have a date...I'm still waiting for my date, mainly because I can't make up my mind on valve I think. Hopefully will get a date this week...I just want to get it done so I can move on...

    Choosing valve for surgery #2

Hi Luckyguy17, yes our situations are very similar. Good luck for the surgery in April...I see my surgeon on Wednesday and hopefully get a date then, but it is likely to be sometime in April as well. Angiogram is already done. Good luck with the decision making...it is a tough call.

    Choosing valve for surgery #2

Thanks for that info. Interesting... have to say though that I don't like the thought of going from having one valve problem to having two, but that is just me. Will be interesting to see the results of the study...that's the problem isn't it, it's a time thing... and it might just not be in...
