    Coaguchek test strips

The 15 second rule come into play because, I believe, that the longer you wait, the more the coagulation factor will become an issue with the meter reading correctly, since the blood is from an open wound to the skin and the body will begin the process of sealing it off.

Trying to figure out how to buy inr kit and supplies through insurance

From my experience obtaining my first home testing monitor, these are the steps that I had to go through. I should add that the vendor that I purchased the monitor from was extremely helpful to me with the process, and took care of and filed most of the paperwork. If you have insurance, you...

    Ointment and sunscreen on scar

I have never really hid my scars from the sun, and I have had 2 open heart surgeries. You can hardly see the scar(s), it actually looks like one, but they healed really well for me. I used Palmers Coca Butter with Vitamin E Formula. And for the sun on my boat I use BlueLizard Sunscreen,

Does physical training makes AI, BAV, LV hypertrophy, and/or aortic aneurysms worse?

Hi cewilk, You can find an earlier response to this question on the thread AZ Don provided. Thought I would add a few comments. I have an aortic aneurysm, and my aorta also dissected. It tore from my aortic valve all the way down the aorta, and branched from there down to my left knee cap...

FDA Approval: On-X aortic valves with less warfarin

For me personally, knowing that the approved range is 1.5 - 2.0, provides peace of mind, as I will try to be between 2.0 and 2.5. If I happen to fall below the 2.0, I still have a safety margin. Currently, my set range is 2.5-3.5. So yes it does make a difference for me, especially knowing that...

    mechanical valve noise

Mine also seems to be louder at time, I have fun with it, especially when getting onto a crowed elevator. If you open your mouth a little it acts like a mini-speaker, and the sound resonates even louder. Just stand in the back of the elevator and watch the look on peoples faces.

After years of stable numbers joining planet fitness is lowering my INR it seems

When exercising you increase your rate of metabolism, and if building muscle, this also will keep your metabolism level higher even when not exercising. This means your liver functions a little more as well, thus effecting your INR level,( it will lower it), as it processes the Coumadin out of...

FDA Approval: On-X aortic valves with less warfarin

I thought this information was worth sharing, and wanted to pass this on, as I found it on another site. The new FDA approval indicates a 1.5 - 2.0 INR range for the On-X mechanical aortic valves, but as always, read the info, and check with your doctor. FDA Approval: On-X aortic valves with...

    Day- or nighttime testing?

I also find it difficult to get a good sample first thing in the morning, especially during the winter months. For me, the most important point is to test prior to you taking your Coumadin dose for that day. This allows you to make adjustments to your dose immediately that day, and not have to...

ST JUDE & ON-X — Study and Data

I had a St Judes for 10 yrs. Then Pannus started to develop and prevented my St Judes Aortic Valve from functioning properly. In fact, they only gave me less than a year to get it replaced, or I wouldn't be around to worry about it. So, This time I elected to go with the On-X due to some...

Surgical Question: Why Replace Ascending Aorta And Root?

Good info.... while preparing for my 2nd OHS, (due to scar tissue preventing my original mechanical valve from functioning after 10 yrs), my doctor put it to me in simple terms, " I don't think that you would want to be back here for another surgery in 3 to 5 years" So for my 2nd OHS they did...
