    Edwards Resilia Inspiris Aortic Valve

Hi Dick, I did contact them by phone but for some reason they weren't very helpful. I was told to talk to my cardiologist about the valve and if I didn't get anywhere I could call them back. They do have representatives in my area I was told but the lady I talked to seemed a little reluctant to...

    Edwards Resilia Inspiris Aortic Valve

Does anyone know where I can find out what hospitals or surgeons in the US are currently using the Inspiris Resilia valve. I've heard of people who have received the valve in Dallas, Minneapolis, Cleveland and I think New Jersey but I live in NC and I'm just wondering how I could find a surgeon...

Travel with moderate to severe stenosis of aortic tissue valve?

Just in case anyone wonders, I took the trip. 3 weeks in Ireland and Scotland. There may have been some risk to it but I'm glad I went.

    EKG results show a-flutter

Hi Marguerite, I'm actually just wondering how to reach you. I sent you a message but your messages were full. Will you message me? Thanks.

In shock - 12 great years later, just discovered I need another OHS

Hi Pellicle. I'm not challenging you with the question that follows but want to know what would happen. My tissue valve is 12 years old and I'm now 65 but still very active. I just got back from a 3 week trip to Ireland and Scotland. I have severe stenosis in my aortic valve and will have to...

Moses Cone Hospital and Consumer Reports Rating

Thanks Tom, I was hoping the post might get responded to from someone who has had surgery there but also, just interested in what people had to say. Your thoughts are valid. Not necessarily going there just curious about what people here thought. I've gotten one opinion about how to go about my...

Moses Cone Hospital and Consumer Reports Rating

In the July issue of Consumer Reports, they had an article called Heart Surgery Safety Guide. In that article, they rated hospitals based on such factors as survival and complications rates. The data was provided by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the professional group that represents heart...

Travel with moderate to severe stenosis of aortic tissue valve?

Thanks for the advice. I think since I've seen my cardiologist recently, I will look into pre-condition travel insurance. I'm on my own with the planning. We have to do our trips on a budget and I've never used a travel agent before. It would be great to have the help of one though.

Travel with moderate to severe stenosis of aortic tissue valve?

Thanks so much pellicle. Now I need to see if I can pull this trip off in a couple of months of planning. I've been wondering if I should get a waiver for pre-existing conditions on my travel insurance. Do you have any experience with that?

Travel with moderate to severe stenosis of aortic tissue valve?

Hello everyone, I had my last echo February 16. The one before that was last June. I have an 11 year old Edwards bovine valve that will be 12 on Mar. 6. Almost birthday time! I knew that this valve was showing deterioration after last summer's echo. We had been thinking about traveling to...

Second AVR -- unexpected, but doing great

Can you elaborate on that some Agian? Are you talking about first time valve replacement?

    Latest Echo

Hi and glad things are not progressing! I take K2 daily but a 1000 mcg seems like a lot. Is there a reason you take that much? Thanks.

    Surgery done

Wishing you an uneventful and quick recovery and many happy years with this valve. I hope it's the last one you ever need.

    Surgery done

Hi there, I was wondering what you meant by shattered. Where did you have your valve replaced and by whom?

Second AVR -- unexpected, but doing great

Thanks Paleowoman. I really do want to research this valve. I told my surgeon about it last Sept. but he wasn't impressed. When I told him it's supposed to last longer he said, "that's what they all say." Hopefully, now that it's becoming more available, he will change his mind.

Second AVR -- unexpected, but doing great

Margueirite, you got your first valve replacement about the same time I did. I got a bovine Edwards valve in March, 2006. My valve is showing signs of deterioration and will probably need replacing soon. Were you getting echos once a year or every 6 months before your valve went? I didn't know...

4 Days to decide between bio and mechanical aortic valve

Yeah, there is a lot still unknown to me that might change the course of things considerably. More testing should give better answers to what is going to be best. I have read that warfarin can become a problem as people get older. Not exactly sure what those risks are but I'd like to know more...

4 Days to decide between bio and mechanical aortic valve

One thing no one mentioned that could effect your choice is how many surgeries are you likely to have unrelated to your valve. I've never gotten a very clear picture of what a hassle it might be to come off of warfarin so you can have surgery but it must make things more complicated. If you...

4 Days to decide between bio and mechanical aortic valve

I never heard before that statins increase the life of tissue valves. I did read about a study though that high cholesterol increases the probability of calcification so maybe that does make sense. Interesting.

    Is Hydrochorothiazide safe?

I imagine that it is pretty dose dependent. That just makes sense to me so I take some comfort in that.
