    Another Alcohol Thread

Yeah, that was just an excuse to drink too much a couple of times. :)

APS patients and INR (finger stick) machines

I have wondered if I don't have something going on with my blood that makes my Coagucheck give readings that are high. But then, why was the InRatio so close to labs blood draw. I am thinking I am going to try a different meter.

    Another Alcohol Thread

During my exit "interview" the PA that talked to me was on warfarin himself and it turned out to be one more blessing. Regarding alcohol, as well as all other things, he said consistency is your best friend. He suggested it was better for your system to drink daily, as opposed to only on...

    Picking a Surgeon and Hospital

I went to Mayo in Rochester at the recommendation of the heart hospital in South Dakota, also rated in the top 50. I like my cardiologist, and trust him even more after he recommended that I go to the Mayo Clinic, I have to second the thoughts that this place is amazing. Yes the Cleveland Clinic...

First time ever - forgot warfarin!

Again, my results missing a dose mirror what the more experienced posters have said, it doesn't affect me for more than a few days. I would like to add that if I am within 10 or so hours when I realize I missed it, I take the dose and don't worry about it.

Slight increases in INR, two main culprits?

I agree with both Dick and pellicle. Those variances looked like normal tests to me. My range is 2.5 to 3.5, and I am more comfortable at 4.0 than at 2.0. This stuff isn't as bad as people make it seem when they haven't been on it. My life hasn't changed since my surgery, except I never took any...

    Coag-Chek meter information wanted

I do a lab test about monthly with a draw, but I stick myself every week. I have noticed that the higher my INR, the farther off the Coaguchek XS is. As long is it is consistent I am ok with the error. I can adjust for that, and I just want to know that I am very low or excessively high...

    Coag-Chek meter information wanted

No, I have a record of every test I have had taken for the last 5 years, since I had my valve replaced. I did get more strips for the Coaguchek XS, but it has been consistently much higher than my Inratio 2 or lab draws. But, thanks for the reminder, I am low on lancets. Like you, I buy my own...

    Coag-Chek meter information wanted

I know they do it on site, I had already asked that. I went ahead and ordered the Coaguchek strips.

    Coag-Chek meter information wanted

No the strips were not kept in the fridge. The instructions do not recommended that. I meant to ask about the Coag-Sense meter, but I can't edit the title anymore. I have been self testing for 5 years, so I am not new to it. For me the Inratio has been closer to lab tests than the Coach...

    Two missed doses. PLease ehlp!

Apparently not. At least according to those who "practice" medicine. ;) I told my doctor I have a vested interest in making sure my numbers are stable, and he did agree with me.

    Two missed doses. PLease ehlp!

My doctor wanted me to take my dose in the evening, only because that way they can make doseage adjustments before I took my pills. I don't take their recommended dosages either, as I prefer to take an even dosage all week as opposed to a large dose, two small doses, another large etc.

    Coag-Chek meter information wanted

The problem with doing a test is I would have to buy test strips. That being said, I should have tested my wife, and now wish I would have. I have gone through two orders of 48 strips with that meter, and it has been consistently off by that amount. I doubt that Roche would do anything since I...

    Two missed doses. PLease ehlp!

This is exactly why I take my dose in the morning. I have forgotten my morning pills twice in 5 years, but my evening pills, well I don't take any important ones in the evening for a reason. It is tough getting used to taking pills at first, since I didn't take anything before my surgery.

Giving myself my first Lovenox injection.

When I had to bridge, I really wanted my wife to give me the shot. Shots don't bother me at all, but I didn't want to do it myself. She looked so nervous that I was more scared of her looking scared than I was of giving myself the shot so I did it. The first one did take a bit of self coaxing...

Alcohol & INR - Just for Fun

Good test! I did about the same thing, but I had WAY more beers to do the test. You know, just in case. My results were nearly the same as yours, I noticed negligible differences. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone not self testing though, as everyone is different. I did drink more than usual...

    Coag-Chek meter information wanted

Since the Inratio 2 has been discontinued, and I really dislike my Coagucheck XS due to reading very high compared to blood draws, I am considering this meter. Is there anything "special" that needs to be done with this meter? ProtimeNow, I am considering this based on your reviews and I would...

81mg Aspirin, and then another NSAID as needed?

It is good to see your reply, that being said, I take an 81 mg. and was advised not to take Aleve. Like you, it was the only thing that seemed to help with my migraines. Since my surgery, I have had the auras a few times, but no headache to follow. I used to like Aleve.

Reinforcing the need for weekly testing

Thanks Protimenow, I have been lax about testing lately. I am testing only every two to three weeks, and there is no good excuse other than laziness. As far as amoxicillin, I have never noticed a difference, but as usual, your mileage may vary. Thanks for the kick in the pants, I will test...

    5 years ago right now.......

I was somewhat cognizant. Morphine had something to do with that, and it helped me a lot. I still remember that night, and my wife telling me after the fact that the angel of a nurse I had was telling her that I was doing well. I think I was, since I walked out of IC to my room, and she said...
