    Honest Answers

@JannerJohn I felt much like you are when I was first diagnosed, not at 55, but at 65. I even thought of not having surgery I was so frightened of it and was absolutely convinced that I would not survive it. I was very resentful of people who were/are jocks or otherwise with the big...

U of M vs Clevland Clinic

I started going to Cleveland for checkups after a year of seeing Baltimore or Virginia doctors. Cleveland was a 6 hour drive from the WV Eastern Panhandle but a world away from the care I was getting locally. It was hands down more through testing, calculating if it’s Time to do this thing...

    9 weeks picture (shirt-free)

Thank you for sharing! It is very interesting. I’m almost exactly 12 months out. I haven’t figured out how to do a pic that isn’t too too whatever 70 old lady scar. 🤭. But mine is very thin and much smaller than I imagined it could be. The very top was the last to heal, not in an open way...

    Sudden valve replacement, Asymptotic

Welcome @Aalok jain! iunderstand your shock at this as do many people on this Forum! The best part is, your valve problem was found and fixed. Although I knew I had a bicuspid valve for a couple of years, like you, I did not have obvious symptoms that it was worsening until about 3-4 weeks...

    One Year Anniversary

Yesterday, January 7 was my one year anniversary. What with family, Mom’s 92 nd birthday, my Max car diagnosed with an unusual and fatal cancer, being glued to media watching events, I forgot. I’ve had more issues with medication like the beta blockers than the actual valve placement and...

    Its all new,

Oh my goodness @krosson62 Many hugs to you. This is all new and hard and remember, in addition to the incision, many things are healing we can’t necessarily see. Berg overwhelmed and depressed after surgery is quite common. I had it bad, if that helps you out to know. What helped me was...

Age 55 and I need a new Aortic Valve, Its decision time. Radiation caused calcium build up. (First Post)

Sometimes, we must kick the can, especially with underlying or additional medical issues where warfarin or similar drugs are contra indicated. Macular degeneration for example. Do I want to risk blindness or another surgery, likely a TAVR ? I choose TAVR. Be sure your...

    aortic stenosis without symptoms

Like many who have chimed in, I too had no symptoms when I was diagnosed at the “moderate” stage in January 2015. I was 65. I was very active, I had been working with a trainer in a crossfit based program since 2012, at first to loose weight, those last 20 stubborn midlife pounds. I...

Seeking advice re changes in my heart and energy

Yes, I completed agree, we have to be our own individual detectives and figure out what works for us. I’m prone to relying solely on yoga which is good. But not enough. To inspire walking, I finally got a Fitbit. I find it really does get me moving. I set the hourly reminders for 250 steps...

How has it been since your Valve replacement?

LOL. Yes, I noticed that! You were in California, right? And I was in Cleveland and we got out on the same day too! January 11. except I got a biological. I have macular degeneration and did not want the blood thinners, neither did the surgeon. I was actually not “home” until Jan 15, waiting...

    I love licorice too, but

Licorice is also in many herbal teas, mostly the ones that say something about detox or also have turmeric. I always check the labels carefully anymore. Camomile can be very intense and it’s so widely added to “herbal teas” It is a surprising how little of an herb or spice or whatever needs...

Episodic "brain fog", fatigue, coordination issues post AVR surgery?

It does all come flooding back sometimes. I can relate and I’m sorry. I hope it starts to fade away better and Altogether for you. And no, I think that doctors don’t like to hear about drug side effects or strange symptoms especially when a concern is about an “old” accepted drug.

Episodic "brain fog", fatigue, coordination issues post AVR surgery?

OMG. Yes. But I had visuals mostly relating back to breathing tube, panics and the like. I felt like I had to learn to sleep again or go to sleep again. I sought out a trauma specialist that used behavior techniques. Doc thought I had post surgery ptsd. The specialist helped some but it...

How has it been since your Valve replacement?

Almost 9 months since January 7. Most days settling in. Other days still feel nervous like the waiting room, which makes me pause and laugh at myself. For example I saw the cardiologist a few days ago. He was all smiles and said, I think we should check again in 9 months. We don’t need to see...
