It might not be Mount Everest . . . .

Thank you so much @Bionic Orange for those words of encouragement! From your lips to my valve's ears! 🤣 I will also be at St. Paul's tomorrow, with Dr. Lichtenstein performing the surgery!

19 year anniversary with my bovine valve

Amazing, @Duffey. I will receive a bovine valve in the next few weeks, and I can't tell you how encouraging it is to read this. Long may it last!! Woot!

    Lipoprotein(a) | Lp(a) test

Absolutely! Given my Irish heritage and the fact that my friend recently gifted me a four-leaf clover, I feel Lady Luck is also on my side! 🤞

    Lipoprotein(a) | Lp(a) test

Very happy I came across this thread, which prompted me to get my lipoprotein(a) tested ahead of my aortic valve replacement surgery (which should happen in a few weeks - or less!). The test shows mine at 29 nmol/L, which, as I understand it, bodes well for the longevity of a bovine aortic...

    Activity Time Lines

Oh wow! This is super encouraging! Slow is totally fine and the best way to re-start. I'm going to look into cardiac rehab for sure; thank you for that tip!

    Activity Time Lines

Really appreciate the great info in this thread. I'll be having AVR surgery in the next couple of months (no date yet) and am entirely focused on what happens post-surgery. I am typically a very active person - running, hiking, dancing, all the cardio things - but am v. restricted at the moment...

Valve disease presentation by Dr. Kevin Hodges

Thanks for sharing this! My bicuspid aortic valve is severely stenotic (and I'm experiencing shortness of breath with even mild exertion now). I saw the surgeon last week after an angiogram and he advised that surgery would probably in July-August of this year (he rated me as NYHA 1-2). I'm in...

    332 Days Out Of Surgery

Amazing!! I'm in the pre-surgery camp and my activity is severely restricted at the moment. Many mountains all around me but no climbing until after surgery. This gives me so much hope and I can't wait to climb again. I'm going to set a similar goal. Thank you for the inspiration!! 🌄

60YO woman with BAV and severe stenosis

Thanks @drivetopless It definitely has been creeping up on me, and I am certainly more fatigued in the past month - there's no denying it now as I've had more naps in the past month than I have ever had in my life! Shortness of breath is also more intense when exercising (especially hiking our...

60YO woman with BAV and severe stenosis

Thanks for sharing @newarrior. I'm on tap for an angiogram and the cardiologist says surgery will probably happen within days of that. Now that I know it's happening, I want to get it done and move forward with the next chapter. Thinking good thoughts for you and hope all goes well.
