sat in my garden on a lovely warm, sunny spring day
going to be the last day or normality for a while.
admission to the hospital tomorrow
am surprisingly calm...maybe when i'm admitted and spend the night on the ward the nerves will start :p
Yes, I'm using the side of my finger.
I found using a lower setting, the lancet didnt pierce my skin enough to produce a relatively large drop of blood
i have been practising with my coaguchek INRange, and found the elastic band tourniquet to be vital. Without it i was unable to produce a large enough drop of blood. Also, I need to have the softclik set to the maximum setting of 5
Just after Xmas my parents unfortunately caught covid.
My Dad (who is 75) got it bad and was in hospital for over 2 weeks. During that time he had a chest scan on his lungs. This scan picked up that he had a thoracic aortic aneurysm.
After he recovered from covid he was referred to the same...
i hope so.
my resting heart rate sometimes falls into the 40s...so i reckon my cardio strength is pretty good.
but we'll see.
there's no guarantees with heart surgery. incredibly this will be the first time in my life i've ever been under a general anaesthetic
thanks for that Pellicle !
this is what I thought when I spoke to my GP today. I was tbh amazed what he was saying, and after checked the NHS wales website for their guidelines on anti-coagulating for mechanical heart valves. The guidelines confirmed what you said
I will certainly try again to...
that's what i thought.
i was very surprised that my GP said that to me.
He clearly knows not much about anti-coagulation treatment for ppl with mechanical heart valves
I'll have to try and get him to prescribe me coaguchek test strips too (y)
Good luck aswell (y)
I'm asymptomatic ...still running 10km on my treadmill most days with no problems
we'll be able to compare notes on the surgery and post surgery recovery process
i bought a coaguchek inrange meter for home testing.
my GP has just told me they wont supply me with a prescription for the testing strips :cautious:. So i'll have to buy them myself(will cost around £250 a year if I self test once a week)
My GP kept going about how i may not be put on warfarin...
haven't had it yet !.. I'm scheduled for 22nd April. 2 weeks tomorrow. The date i was given in late Jan was cancelled, as that was when the UK was in the grip of a bad covid wave
you're in the exact same situation as me
aortic valve plus aneurysm repair. I have no symptoms either, even though the stenosis is classified as severe now. similar age too
the operation is better than the alternative....a guaranteed early death
