    Ross Procedure

Interesting stuff PAN (y) the paper below also seems to suggest even younger adults who have mechanical AVR have sub-optimal long term survival rates compared to the general population, whereas those undergoing the Ross procedure have comparable rates to the general population. However, it...

    my time has come

Actually I've since discovered my treadmill does not accurately read the speed. When I set it at 14km/hr, it's really around 10-11km/hr  I wasn't as fit as I thought :( All the same, I can run as well now as before the surgery (y) Had nearly a week off beta blockers, and I've noticed my...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

Yes, I agree knowing you're likely to be sensitive to warfarin by checking your genotypes is only going to be of benefit when you begin taking it...so as not to overdose initially (which is what happened to me in the hospital, as they loaded me with the standard 4-5mg/day dosage, and i went over...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

just read through this thread and checked my genotypes on 23andme rs2108622 : CC rs12777823: AG certainly explains the low warfarin dose I require to keep me in range (1.5mg/day) " The rs2108622 (V433M) variant in this gene, a C>T missense SNP with global MAF 0.24, designated as the *3 allele...

    A-fib/flutter

I have a naturally low resting heart rate anyway tbh. Before surgery it was around 50-55 bpm Yes , the wait between going into a-flutter and cardioversion was 2 months ! Annoyed me quite a lot actually, and I spent plenty of time phoning up etc to try and get it done Problems with staffing at...

    A-fib/flutter

Just had my outpatient checkup (ECG, echo, consultation). Consultant agreed that my resting heart rate of ~45bpm was a little too low. My dosage of bisporolol is to be reduced to one 2,5mg tablet in the morning (no more evening tablet) for 2 weeks If my heart rhythm remains Ok, then after 2...

    A-fib/flutter

I was in persistent flutter, heart rate was 140bpm, then after going on b-blockers around 90bpm at rest. since cardioversion i've had no more episodes i drink coffee once a day...alcohol i've just started drinking a little since the surgery...about 2 pints of lager (seems to do nothing to me...

    A-fib/flutter

your situation is almost identical to mine! I had aortic valve replacement and repair of the aorta in April. I'm 47, was asymptomatic pre-op, and in good shape Around 2 weeks after the surgery i went into atrial flutter and had to spend 3 days in hospital again. I then started on bisoprolol...

How did you discover your valve issue?

In 1983 I think it was , as a 9 year old I had tonsillitis and the GP picked up a heart murmur...was then referred to the hospital for further investigation.....that's how they found out Once it was confirmed I was pulled out of the school football and athletics teams :(
