Made it to the other side

Did you have a bypass too? They found that my LAD is 50-60% occluded. So while it was not worth to do a bypass on its own I guess they figured to do it while in the neighborhood. They will be using a vein from the chest.

What kind of shape are you in for AVR?

I'm a bit anxious, nope a real lot re: my physical condition before AVR#2. Before my 1st I was aerobically & strength wise in good shape. I worked out. When i was 1st diagnosed with this one, I had stopped working out for a few years & then covid shut down the gyms. I also worked in healthcare &...

    Honest Answers

I'm symptomatic this time. No you don't want to live like this. It's a very gradual downhill slope. I started with short of breath in certain positions, then sometimes now when I talk. Housework I was tired after 1-2 hours now after 30 minutes. Although I wish it was over I take comfort that...

    Imminent AVR - 40 y.o. female - advice please

I'm having my 2nd AVR 4/20/21 at CC. And yes they are doing their darndest to keep face to face visits to a minimum. In my case I will have the same surgeon (he should remember just what he did in 2011) Dr Pettersson. I met with him in 2011 & he is barely personable, but that's OK!!! I want a...

    Imminent AVR - 40 y.o. female - advice please

I get the congenital part, my son was born with Tetralogy of Fallot. When he will need more surgery he will have with a surgeon experienced with homographs - it was not mentioned a "congenital" surgeon. Me I was born with a bicuspid valve, had my surgery at CC in 2011. Further surgeries for my...

Made it to the other side

In 2011 I had my wires pulled. I'm really freaking out that they would leave them. Someone said they sometimes felt the ends of them because they didn't (poking through the skin) Isn't that like a wound directly to the heart? I'm not happy & it is happening 4/20/21

Alcohol and Drugs after open heart surgery

I've decided that I will try cannabis for pain management if needed after the surgery. I live in Michigan where it is legal. The cardiologist did not say no, he just cautioned me re: unknown side effects since it's new re: pain control

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

Hello long past due date! Where did you have your surgery? I'm kinda interested in this SternaLock. I know I had traditional wires for my 1st (I saw them on an x-ray) Anybody know anything else new in AVR since then?

    Recovering alone

I was given a choice, TAVR or total replacement. Since I'm 66 yrs old I'm going with total replacement with an Inspiris Resilia, with the plan of having an easier TAVR later on if necessary. This valve has built in TAVR insertion availability.

    Recovering alone

How did you shower. take BPs, temps, get weights? I get planning ahead, frozen meals, just don't clean the house for a week or 2, BTW this isn't my 1st rodeo, it's my 2nd AVR. Feed pets? I did have a complication the 1st time - pericardial effusion. The 1st week if you can, have a visiting nurse...

    Recovering alone

I kinda have that situation too. I've spoken to a nurse at my insurance co - yup in the US you don't necessarily get what you need but what your ins will cover. She advised to stay out of assisted health care facilities (covid) & take at home assistance very preferably

Yup, CC on 4/20 hi ho hi ho it's off to CC I go! Unfortunately or fortunately I'm symptomatic & I am SO ready to have this done, I don't want to feel this way anymore. So I wanna get-er done, though I'm still anxious a lot.

Confidence...if only there was a pill

I totally get you & now I have to have my 2nd 4/20. My 1st one was in my 50s & now I am a caregiver for my son. Talk to your Dr about anti-anxiety meds - temporarily til your surgery. I think for those of us who are having surgery during this pandemic we have a double dose of anxiety. For me...
