    Insomnia at it's worst

The other night I woke up with a 'start' at 12:30am. Wasn't up long. But at least the power naps/crashes have stopped. I got a prescription for Xanax and we'll see if that helps.

    Insomnia at it's worst

I'm 2 months post surgery, back to work and generally doing great. But....lately I've developed a big case of anxiousness and insomnia. I can't get comfortable, toss and turn and end up having a really miserable time at night. Even with a sleeping pill, my sleep pattern is non-existent. Anyone...

    New Here

Shirley - sorry to hear of his problems but they will get better. As everyone has said, he's been through the mosh pits and needs time to climb out. Is he using his spirometers? If he's having lung issues, it will help. Did they test him prior to surgery? Make sure he has a goal. Longer...

Sort of O/T Dick Cheney has heart transplant surgery

My uncle's heart turned to paper. He was advised to stop smoking, stop drinking and lose weight. He followed the Drs' orders and had a heart transplant. Then, after he recovered, he started smoking, drinking and eating again. Guess what? He dropped dead from heart failure. I say nothing about...

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

I'm surprised how easy the whole thing was. Having had a full gall bladder operation and remember all the pain and morphine, this was a walk in the park. I remember waking up with the breathing tube in and having to deal with the danged thing for 45 min. I also thought that there was no...

    Chest tightness.

I'm having the same issue every now and then. I have dull pains on either side of the incision. The surgeon said it's to be expected given the nature of the surgery.

    Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Today was a great day. I saw the surgeon for my followup. Results - everything's great. Permission to drive Then, saw my cardiologist who has just been named Director of Heart Failure at the hospital. Results - everything's great. Released to full-time work. Then we talked about rehab. She said...

    3 quick questions.

Showers - I'm at 6 weeks and shower every day. I was being extra careful about the incision and having the shower spray on my face and neck. But now I've backed up. No real problems. Side sleeping. I'm a big side snoozer. I still hug the pillow and have an occasional ache. But it's no big deal...

    Rough past couple of days

at 6 weeks, I'm still not eating much. My partner says I should just order from the kids menu. The good news is I've lost weight AND have leftovers. When is your next Drs visit? I would suggest calling your cardiologist. Dave

Possible for an uneventful life after surgery?

Ovie I'm assuming that this is your first major surgery. I felt the same way after my gall bladder, 12" incision, cut through abdominal wall surgery. Recovery was slow, pain never seemed to go away. I was pissed. I wanted to be back to normal NOW! After a few weeks, I remembered how I couldn't...

What medical issues to get fixed before the surgery

I was all set up for surgery in mid-Jan. Then, I developed a GI bleed. The good news is my colon is in tip-top shape. The bad news was when they did the endoscope, they discovered a bleed. Apparently it caused quite a stir. There was quite a bit of blood that was removed & the ulcer cauterized...
