    Possible Mitral Valve Surgery Needed?

Welcome to the forum @Wahoo Master ! If indeed you are at "severe" stage without the symptoms, then you may have a few years left, statistically speaking. However, the end of life would not be pretty, since you'd go through the cardiac failure phase. The transition can be sudden, and nobody...

    I’m in the system!

OMG. I'm speechless. Maybe you can tell the surgeon's office that a few thousand people around the world is now watching his scheduling practice? 🤔

    Hello all 👋🏻

I had seen similar differences between the echo and CT. My cardiologist explained that the CT scan is much more accurate in this regard. (It's a full 3-dimensional information, unlike echo, where the measurements will depend on alignment of the tool.) Excellent! It's almost an "unfair...

    TEE procedure on Tues

Hi @Gail in Ca Thanks very much for the update! I presume this is a pre-surgery check on possible "other problems"? From the mitraclip discussion, it sounded like the valve diameter is not very large (or maybe there is an unusual geometry). Hope it's not an issue for the surgeon, and that...

New BAV dx and super scared :(

I think that's a very good idea, if feasible. I recall in the hospital the nurses seemed to have an idea about the surgeons. (They wouldn't discuss them, of course. But there was sort of "registration"/recognition moment when a name is mentioned.) Which makes sense, since the nurses have to deal...

New BAV dx and super scared :(

Well, if one thinks of money as an inflammation, then there should be some "drainage pipe" service to help. [Just a fantasy, not a "theory".]

Mental confusion after intense exercise? Anyone experience this with mechanical valve?

This description reminds me of "Italian tune-up". Wikipedia claims it's obsolete, but some mechanics still claim revving up the engine once a couple of weeks is helpful to avoid the deposits. [And I guess drawing inferences from this analogy may not be wise.]

New member; Alarmed at decreasing EF %

Well... "you do you", of course. But I'd be thinking about getting the 2nd opinion, if I were in your shoes. On a different topic, thanks for the whiskey pointer, btw! Some colleagues have regular "social events" during in-person meetings, entirely based around the drink.

New member; Alarmed at decreasing EF %

Did the cardiologist agree with the "severe" stage classification though? (y)

New member; Alarmed at decreasing EF %

😲 Between this statement and your forum/name tag, I'm starting to suspect a case of over-education :) Sure thing. Discussions are helpful this way. I'd also ask if they agree with the "severe" classification of the echo test. My cardiologist did not completely agree with somebody else's...

Can't locate packing list for hospital -

Hm. A radio is an interesting choice. My hospital had TV, which I never watched 🤷‍♂️ Good to know! I did suspect that the different hospitals have different requirements/strategies. Mine was keen on reducing "water weight" after the surgery. They had a reason for that, but I understood was not...

I have won my battle and am finally free

IMHO this is a huge underestimate. 🤷‍♂️ But then, I suspect you are a kind and optimistic person. Kind of matches my cultural stereotype about the Australians. 🤔

New member; Alarmed at decreasing EF %

My memory matches what @Midpack has said, that the normal range is 50-70%. From this perspective, 70% is very high, at the upper limit of the normal range. 60% is exactly in the middle, and 55% is on the low side, but still normal. So... I think you need a cardiologist's evaluation to see if...

Hi all. BAV/stenosis and surgery in the near future!

FWIW, I was helped by TCM in a serious way in the past. However, a family friend, who is a physician, complained once about some patients taking herbal formulae. It was completely unprompted, and his point was that the interactions with the western drugs are frequently/usually unknown. (Ginseng...

Old member looking around for new info

Hi @Duffey , Very sorry for your son-in-law's troubles. I didn't quire realize the recovery time could be this bad... In case the pain information is still useful, I recall being warned several times, before and after the operation, to not wait until the high pain. They preferred me to...

Just got offered https://corcym.com/devices/aortic/US/perceval tissue valve

Interesting thoughts, but I'm of the persuasion that "one cannot legislate economics". Or there would be severe side effects. Hm. NIH is huge already, as the government sponsorship goes. IMHO they will agree with the research sponsorship part. And will do more research on paper, and maybe in...

New to forum, but not new to heart valves..

Well, it depends. I don't have a problem with a new hypothesis with a reasonable logic behind it, that is not supported by tests/observations (yet). As long as it's recognized to be a hypothesis, not a "fact", that's perfectly fine. In the context of medicine, this should not be an actionable...

New to forum, but not new to heart valves..

It has been so throughout the whole history of science. With due respect, I don't think this is necessarily correct. There have been quite spectacular misconceptions in the past. The whole scientific process became much more rigorous IMO.

New to forum, but not new to heart valves..

It stands to reason that not all topics in an encyclopedia would be to your liking, in any encyclopedia. I'd think that any encyclopedia would lean toward a consensus point of view, as opposed to a fringe point of view. It is correct that sometimes a fringe point of view turns out to be "more...

If you say so. I don't understand your phrase. I'm very sorry you think so.
