    Ross procedure complete

Great to see you on the other side! Yep, take recovery easy...day by day. I found it frustrating at times in the first 2-3 weeks, but by the end of week 3 and into week 4 BIG improvements. I'm now into week 8 and feel normal apart from the scar down the middle of my chest haha. Keep walking...

Recovery of Ejection Fraction post AVR

Hi thanks for sharing your experience. I can imagine you're feeling great coming from 30% EF to now 56% (and probably increasing). What symptoms did you have pre surgery? My first echo will be in February so looking forward to seeing the improvements :) Cheers

Recovery of Ejection Fraction post AVR

For sure! Same here! Yep, I've done 4 weeks of my cardiac rehab with 2 weeks to go. I've been walking every day since starting recovery at home. Thanks! Yeah recovery has been uneventful to date. The first 2-3 weeks I was a bit flat. By the end of week 3 into week 4, I was feeling a lot...

Medication after Aortic Valve Replacement are you taking?

I'm currently taking after AVR: 7.5mg of metoprolol 16mg of candesartan 7mg of Wafarin Cardiac aspirin I'm hoping I'm able to step metoprolol soon, but I'm only 2 months out of AVR surgery. Cheers

After your surgery, what are some of the things that you found out that surprised you

Things that surprised me: That there wasn't much pain in ICU or in the ward Losing blood from the operation, I was anemic! The amount of Heparin shots I received, I think it was 10 injections all up, 2 per day. The amount of walking I could do per day The pain when they had to re-dress my chest...

Recovery of Ejection Fraction post AVR

Hi Daniel, Thanks again for the info! Out of interest did you have a tissue or mech valve? Ahh right, got it. I'm currently on 7.5mg of metoprolol once in the morning. My HR in the morning pre my metoprolol is around mid 70s, blood pressure is 120s/70s. Similar to you, my Cardio mentioned the...

Recovery of Ejection Fraction post AVR

Hi Daniel, Thanks for the reply and details on your situation. My left ventricle was also enlarged at 6.6cm pre surgery. On day 7 post AVR operation I had an echo done and my left ventricle had reduced to 5.4cm, so that was quick to remodel. But my ejection fraction was still at at 50-55%. I...

Recovery of Ejection Fraction post AVR

Hi All, I've just been through AVR and into my 7th week now. One of the reasons I needed surgery was my ejection fraction pre surgery had dropped to 50-55% (borderline normal), probably because my BAV had been leaking severely for several years. My Cardio didn't want the EF to drop any further...

    T minus 12 days

Good luck with your surgery and recovery :) I was in the same position to you just recently. I'm 42, on the 29th of July I had the mechanical valve (Medtronic) and graft installed to replace my BAV, aortic root and ascending aorta (bentall procedure). All went fine with the operation and...

    1 week to go!

Lol nice! I love my beer, but not that much. There was beer and wine on the room service menu in hospital.....but I decided it was a bit to early. I didn't feel like booze anyways, I had other priorities like my recovery to focus on.

    1 week to go!

No pain killers now. I still have some discomfort in the chest but it's minimal. The incision is healing up nicely :)

    1 week to go!

The reason for surgery was severe aortic regurgitation Left ventricle was dilated at 6.6cm Aortic root was dilated at 4.9cm and ascending was 4.6 Ejection fraction was borderline normal (50-55%) They were the reasons for surgery. And since surgery the LV has reduced to 5.4cm from 6.6cm so it's...
