    AVR is done. Going home.

Welcome to the other side and here's to an uneventful recovery! 3 days is a quick pitstop! Wow!..... I was in for 8 days all up, but stayed for two days extra till my INR got above 2.0 (coumadin jail) My advice on recovery, walk everyday, celebrate the small wins and have a routine. Are you...

    New here, getting Ross procedure

Potentially, but it's hard to say. I was told Ross is a more complex procedure than a standard SAVR. It's two valve replacement replacements instead of one. Mechanical valve option is proven in terms of durability, from what I've researched here and other places Ross isn't so. Again for me...

    New here, getting Ross procedure

Hi Tom, I'm two and half months out post AVR with a mechanical valve. In my pre surgery lead up, I investigated the Ross and had a meeting with Dr Peter Skilington who is the leading surgeon for Ross here in Australia. My aorta was to big to qualify so he recommended the mechanical valve based...

    New here

I can't actually remember. I was scared to look down there lol. They put a single large bandage to cover them and that stayed on for a week before they put new ones on. All up they were on for about 2 weeks. Best of luck tomorrow!

    New here

I just recently had AVR and I don't even remember the breathing tube being in or being taken out. I must of been still out of it. In my experience ICU wasn't that bad at all, minimal pain but obviously on medication to help. The worst part was when they took the drainage tubes and catheter out...

Need a Aortic Valve Replacement before year ends

I had to remove one of my wisdom tooth prior to surgery, as the tooth had come through the gum and was prone to infection. My surgeon wanted it out. So I'd say yes if you can. But get your dentist to provide a thorough check of you teeth/mouth before surgery.

Need a Aortic Valve Replacement before year ends

@Dunwanted good luck with your procedure! Choosing a mechanical valve is wise considering your age. You'll bounce back quick at your age don't worry, stay positive and do what the doctors say! I'm 42, I've just had my bicuspid valve replaced with a new mechanical valve, plus a graft installed...

My Aortic Valve Replacement Done *tick*

I can imagine things would be different if I had my Op in the middle of covid lockdowns. my recovery was certainly not easy, the first few days were tough and I felt flat. but I forced myself to build new rountines and own the recovery, which...

Advice on minimizing scarring from open heart incision

Hi Michelle, I'm 8 weeks post surgery from an AVR. I have recently developed keloid/hypertrophic at the bottom of my incision. My doctor has suggested cica care which I'm now using. It's a silicon gel sheet which you apply to the scar...

    Ross procedure complete

It will....and when you get to week 7 and 8 you'll forget you had OHS :) The memory is starting to fade for me. Every now and again I remind myself, man I've been through OHS and on the other side now. It still feels kind of unreal. Yeah this was tough initially sleeping on my back. I started...
